I suppose It just depends on what games you like best. far Cry and Skyrim are no doubt, awesome games. I love them, but it's just that I'm into the more modern/futuristic settings games like JC and GTA etc.

My most memorable have been Just Cause and Fallout 3, with Runescape as an honorable mention. #openworld #grapplinghook #exploration #comedy #lotsoffun

I think my first open world game was GTA III. And then there are the Elder Scrolls, the Fallouts and Mass Effect. I also enjoy the simple worlds of Minecraft and Terraria. Each has their own unique worlds and with plenty of nooks and crannies to discover and explore. And I really loved Just Cause 2 with its almost constant chaos amidst exploring the whole island. I hope to add Just Cause 3 to my collection soon.

Just Cause 2 is easily the most fun game I have ever played. The mechanics were borderline flawless. The freedom to do almost anything I could imagine combined with the ability to go anywhere was amazing. I have so many great, lasting memories of this game. The Lost easter egg, grappling a plane to a jet liner and flying around the bass thumping party blimp. I can't wait to do it again.

Serdadu.

Assassin's Creed 4 was alot of fun ... I mean .. you are a pirate yaaaaaaaar 😀
Also Far Cry 4 had nice scenery and fun side missions.

I've played GTA Online since release, and it's still a go to game for me.

In terms of open world games, it's the beez neez. The graphics are outstanding, and the physics are even more fun. Car crashes are a blast each and every time. The fun mechanics are phenomenal too, and this is all without bringing up how much fun I have with friends and more importantly, my wife (Yeah...she's a gamer for me when I want her to be). We've driven countless hours over countless heists, and had fun socializing.

While GTA is the bomb, Just Cause 2 was great enough to keep me on it for months. The fun exploration and insane stunts were so new at the time. The graphics were wonderful too (important to me) and sometimes I'd just cruise, looking around the world in admiration. I also loved climbing to the very high ceiling of the world, and then skydiving for 10 minutes to get back to the ground. I hope I win, because I blew my money on so many games recently, but not Just Cause 3, but I loved 2 a lot. If I don't win, I'll get it early next year after Christmas.

Grand Theft Auto has always had the best open world maps, in my opinion. Grand Theft Auto V being the best simply because it's so alive. Bantering pedestrians, random events and the addition of wildlife has made the world a huge step up from previous titles.

Skyrim and Witcher 3 are my favorites, but maybe Fallout 4 could replace Skyrim but I haven't played it. Set. I just love to explore the worlds and to find interesting places and Quest everywhere.

Far Cry 3 is my favorite, just a big island with lots of guns and a couple of mods to make the game really interesting and hard. Loved it.

Witcher 3 - absolutely gorgeous world that feels more real than most games I've played in terms of arrangement and traversal. The story rocks face, the characters are believable, and the game is filled with tough choices.

Just Cause 2 - I get to blow things up and tether things to other things. It's just pure fun! Could spend hours air-surfing on airplanes.

Spider-Man 2- I'm a Marvel fan, and swinging around as Spider-Man was really fun for me. All those hidden collectibles made even more entertaining. The game itself was OK at best imo, but the free roam kept me hooked for a good time.

Crackdown - Another one like Spider-Man. Running around getting all the collectibles was another good time killer for me... and pretty fun until late in the game and every enemy ended up on rooftops with homing rockets.

Skyrim - There was just a lot in Skyrim, I never really used the mounts either... just ran around and I would generally find something within a few minutes that would grab my attention. If things ever got stale.. grab a mod and add something new!

Fallout 3/NV/4 - Another one like Skyrim with the mods. Was never able to get all the Nuka Cola Quantum for the side quest though... always got distracted by something.

Here are some others that could make the list. Batman Arkham Asylum/City. Ark Survival Evolved. Minecraft. Assassin's Creed Series. Just Cause 2 (never played the original) Mad Max. GTA Series. Shadow of Mordor.

For me, nothing beats GTA 3 during their prime. I always have conversations with my classmates in my grade school years, we didn't even know we were playing a R-rated game. We talked about cheat codes, and every thing fun in the game. How we escaped a cop chase, how we survived a 5-star wanted level by just staying on a rooftop, all the ridiculousness we have talked about that. Funny and sad it may seem but I think I am the only one who stayed on playing and keeping up with the trends on games while every one moved on with their lives. But it was a great time :)

For the first few hours of the game, Far Cry 3. I have never been more invested in my character. If you choose not to fast travel, then the need to sneak around to find weapons and ammo is intensely immersive and exhilarating. The feeling faded a bit as the game wore on, but still a great game.

But TES. The settings, the stories, the starting out imprisoned, the gear, the leveling...

One of my first great open world memories was exploring Final Fantasy 7. There werent any little arrows telling you where to go. Just finding secrets and grinding it out.
Shadows of Mordor was pretty great. Once you start unlocking abilities you could have some real fun in the world.
Far cry 4 is a fond memory too. Scouting outside an outpost with my friend, planning our attack. So much fun.

For me, I absolutely love "The Lord of the Rings Online". All of the lands make you feel like you're in Middle Earth, and the zones are massive! The music accompanies the game perfectly too. It all comes together to make you really feel like you're taking part with the books, though that's also the obvious design, since it's in a storybook fashion.

Skyrim is probably my favourite open world game. Hours of solid game play, made even more incredible with the insane number of mods to support and tweak it. The Arkham series comes in as a close second. (probably excluding Arkham Knight)

Other notable ones: Crackdown, GTAV,

One of the best games ever made for sure - TES V: Skyrim. An amazing game that features a large world to explore, solid crafting, weapon and magic system, unforgettable quest line & characters. Your fantasy made into reality. On PC, this game is still very much alive. Thanks to the large player base and modding community, there is always something to do and you are guarantied a great time each time you launch the game.

The other one would be Far Cry 3. Nicely executed action game that also has a fairly large world as your playground. Story is captivating, you will witness a rather amusing character development and unforgettable villain(s). Beware of the choices you make.

I was a big fan of Just Cause 2, but I think that goes without saying here 😛 Otherwise, I poured way too many hours into Skyrim. What I liked about it was how detailed it all was. Similar to Fallout 4 it didn't need to have the largest map, just the most stuff to do in it. Wandering around and easily finding several dungeons was always a great way to burn time, and it certainly helped that it was all a part of a larger "world" that could be explored.
