Q: What are your favorite games that feature open-world exploration and why?

A: My all time favorite is Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 4. Why? It is has that great experience of an open-world. The world serves a great place to explore and to find great weapons, armor, companions, and just great STUFFS to do.

But here is my full reasons to why I loved Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4 as a great open-world:
First of all, I would say the story consist of great events. I mean come on, a war in a war (Brotherhood of steel vs The Enclave). Second of all, it consist different creative characters. Isn't the mutants just a great enemy to find and mess with??? Third of all, the Weapons and Armors including the DLC are all creative and is just brilliantly a great feature to the game. I personally loved the Power Armor and the Fat Man. Them explosions tho! B )

-GTA: San Andreas and Vice City has to be the open world games i played the most

i loved the mission diversity in the missions in san andreas

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series i played that instead of fallout 3/NV

Some of my favourite open-world games and why:

Borderlands (The whole series) - Always felt like you were progressing even after you finish all of the main quests because of the number of unique and legendary guns you can go and collect

Far Cry (The whole series) - Just running through the maps they have feels so great, and killing things alone the way is always a plus

Every Bethesda open-world game - Let's just face it, Bethesda knows how to make an open-world game

Honourable mentions - Just Cause 2, Planetside 2, Terraria, Elite: Dangerous, Two Worlds 2, and so many more.

heroes of might and magic, i like that game because i have played with my friends when i was very young. i liked it because i was finding interesting items while i was traveling in the world and also i was able to fight challenging enemies.

What are your favorite games that feature open-world exploration and why?

Arma III Exile! Parachute in to a land wearing an orange jumpsuit. Avoid zombies, nasty AI and other players and try to make it to one of the safe zones. This game is amazing and one of the best open-world survival experiences since the original DayZ mod.

A Link to the Past. Not exactly "open world" but it always felt to me like "free open world" or something.

GTA San Andreas. "All you have to do was explore the damn map, CJ" (つ▀¯▀)つ

Batman Arkham series. Because.. you know.. I´m Baaatmaaan (dark pitch voice)

Far Cry 4. The relaxing/melancolic music triggering in the middle of nowhere, interrupted by an eagle from hell. I didn't mind that, though, from the top of my elephant. I'll just keep looking for rhinos and honey badgers, both for skins and revenge.

If I had to pick on I would say FO 4. Plays like a shooter, feels like an RPG... and that loot! Other honorable mentions. Skyrim and FO 3 were both great. Far cry 4 was beautiful as well

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

I have to admit that lately I haven't started playing any open world games, because time investment needed for them.

Elder Scrolls series, especially Oblivion. The many interesting quests and a real moddable game is a big yes for me.

I love open world games such as The Elder Scrolls series and Grand Theft Auto. My favorite open world games are always the games that I can change and destroy the environment for hours and hours.

grand theft auto v and witcher 3 are my favorite games . there are lots of hackers in the gta . i am fuckedup . want a change in life . i have just cause 2 in my steam account . looking forward to get 3rd part :)

I have to give my vote to Witcher 3 because this was the first game I played after getting a new rig.
I was astonished by the beauty this game offered and huge map which includes quests which touch every part of the storyline.
I had quiet a lot of fun travelling to Skellige(notsure) and various locations for the duel which I won by defeating a bear bare handed, that's right, Geralt is pretty Русский.
Not to forget the devs which brought free DLC's to the current gaming era.
I'd love to try JC3 on my new rig.

Just started playing Dead State which is like X:Com meets Zombie Apocalypse and enjoying the freedom and story in the game, plus love turn-based strat games like this.

A mix of many games If I'm honest, though I prefer the swap side of having a fun time and then playing seriously when I feel like it, as well as never feeling board after playing for countless hours. That is why games like Just Cause, Assassins Creed, GTA V... are great. They give you the OPTION of how you want to play the game without even trying. That's why you keep falling back to those games, because of unlimited replay value. Adding multiplayer into the mix just multiplies the fun. Evidently, the community has caught on because we have things like the multiplayer mods for GTA:SA and Just Cause 2. It just adds to the experience. I love them all because they provide different gameplay experiences and stories, but ultimately it's the fun that drags me back, because it's always different each time.

Unlimited fun. Unlimited replay value. That's the way games I like my open world games.

From a pure fun standpoint, has to be Far Cry for me, for pure exploring/depth, Skyrim. Haven't played any of the Just Cause series, so can't really compare.

So far my favorite games for open world exploring have been made by Bethesda. They create wonderfully detailed environments that feel real enough to hide things in plain site along with large maps that don't always give away secrets just by looking at them. Skyrim was my fav until Fallout 4 came out, and so far it's the best.

The Fallout series is my favorite, especially finding a new vault and seeing what twisted experiment was tried on this one. The obscure Easter Eggs are great too. Saints Row 3 is a close second though. I have spent hours just flying through the buildings looking of hidden gems on the rooftops.
