Just a little update... Finally got my second card for SLI :)

6837290472_588cdc6971_b.jpg

Performance wise... THEY'RE GREAT! BF3, RAGE, and etc... all run phenomenal especially for being 1GB cards; I couldn't be happier here!

Temperature wise... OMFG ARE YOU SERIOUS? I guess being so close together they run hotter than I'd like... At idle I can't complain, GPU1 @ 35; GPU2 @ 32, however, when I start gaming GPU1 tends to drift up to 10-12 degrees higher. Benchmarking... GPU1 hits almost 90 degrees while GPU2 hangs out around low 70s.

Overall... This'll get me by for now until later in the year when a few of the aftermarket Kepler cards come out. I figure I go back to a single card setup that's COOL, and possibly nets even higher performance.

LOL! You know what Mal, I think you're right... MSI DOES SUCK! Ughhh I HATE HOW HOT THESE CARDS RUN NEXT TO EACH OTHER! Save yourself the trouble of having your computer blow up Mal, throw those cards in the dump, hurry, quick!!!

Hey, just a quick update, I took all of your suggestions, painted my 7970, painted my sata cables, painted my wireless card, and turned my cooler... opinions?

dude those GPU's are the ugliest thing ever.....
MSI is whacked and TwinFrozr series design is whacked.
overrated and over-hyped piles of BS.

you were better off running SLi Palits instead of crappy MSI
and their motherboards are crap as well.

you can tell everyone who runs crappy MSI GPU's and especially the TwinFrozr design
that they just ruined their systems....
:kaola:
i acctually agree with this although i think your joking. my first card was a 6970 twin frozr and i had nothing but problems with it. all my games froze or or other glitches would happen. ive had no problems with the same games and the cards i have now.

Hmmm... I think I might Go ahead and Paint the Red part of my 7970 a Chrome color to match the color of the Asrock Chipset HS's.

I like the idea.

I see no reason not to. Just make sure you tape off the rest of the card, and sand off the gloss finish on the red parts. I forgot to sand, and I ended up with a less that preferred finish on the card... I can live with it, but since you're going chrome it may be a bit more noticeable. Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback! I turned my cpu cooler w/o re applying thermal paste, so I'm running about 3 degrees hotter now, but I just ordered some online so that'll be nice. I'm looking at braiding the usb 2, usb 3, and HD aud connections at some point.

I have to disagree with that. :pfff:

HEY GAIS THE 7870 AND 7850 FINALLY RELEASED ON NEWEGG!!!!!!! SOOOO HAPPY! The prices aren't to far off expected too. $260 for the 7850 and $360 for the 7870. Course with time the prices will be going down :)

Time to sell this 5850 and upgrade!

Wait a little more, let say, two more weeks.

I agree. That's a big range in price for those 2 cards. When nVidia puts the heat on(pun intended) AMD will react with price drops.

Plus you'll get to see some non-reference designs soon

New rig finally up and running. I'm selling off the i7 920, 1366 board, ram etc soon.

i7 2600k @ 4.5 Ghz
ASUS Z68 mobo
8gb Corsair RAM
Hyper 212+ CPU cooler
HD 5870 (I have another here, probably going to sell the two and upgrade, I don't like the crossfire issues)
x4 Sickelflow 120mm fans
32 GB OCZ SSD (I really want the 128 gb Crucial M4)
HAF 912

It's a 2600k, not 2500k ;p

I just felt like an "upgrade" really. I can get $150 back out of the i7 920 easy, $100 for the mobo maybe etc. So I'm only spending a few hundred bucks at most for a upgrade. I'm looking forward to what Kelper has to offer in the GFX department when they launch as I'm leaning towards a 7970 atm if I sell the 5870's.
