I know it won't be original but I think Civilization II was the best of the series.
It's also the first one I really played so the nostalgia goggles are pretty strong.
We'll see if 6 can win the crown :)

My favorite is Civ V, with all the expansions its probably the most polished and mechanically rich of the main series, though it looks like vanilla VI is giving complete V a run for its money!

I've only played Civ 5 - but almost 900 hours of it - and my favorite civ is Arabia, because it is easy to get a lot of gold and it has a strong military while the Camel Archer is effective.

Out of all the Civilization games, what was your favorite civilization to play, and why?

Unfortunately I only got back into Civ with V. Prior to that, I played on my uncle's computer back when I was very young. I think it was I or II at the time.

I like Russia because of the extra resources.

Civ 5 has definitely been my favorite! Mainly since I've played it most thoroughly and it's most recent in my memory. I definitely devoted a lot of time to the SNES version, but that's a distant memory at this point. Honestly, they were all great.

I am embarrassed to say that Civilization 5 is the only civ game I have bought. I now realize that I was missing a great franchise.

Civ II. I watched my Dad play this game for a long while way back when and thoroughly enjoyed it despite only playing it on occasion myself.

I look forward soooo much to this Civ as it looks AMAZING from the videos I've seen :) Good luck everyone!

Civ II is my favourite Civ game because it's the first one that I played and I've found that Civ I was too simplistic and horrible looking (yeah, I know, a "shallow" comment on a very deep game series ;-) and I felt that the later ones somehow had lost the "magic" and "spark" that Civ II has. I say "has" and not "had" because I still enjoy a gaming session with II every now and then - JUST. ONE. MORE. TURNNNN.....

I hope that Civ VI can captivate me in the way that my original experience with Civ II did.

Civ II, I love you. 🙂

I am a big fan of civ 4, mostly because it was my first experience into the civ style games and I have a lot of good memories with it playing with friends.

For me it is Civ V and I am pretty sure Civ VI will be my favorite next. Why? It is the only game I have played that actually makes good changes with each rendition.

I am a creature of habit and I do not like changes in my life. It is always a bit hard for me to get used to new things in games as well. As a simple example: I liked building your own palace. It was not a game breaking change when it was removed but I missed it nonetheless. I do not care about it anymore now just like I do not care about other things that got changed like the old square grid or unlimited unit stacking. This is because none of the new elements of the gameplay ruin the perfect game as it has always been for me. Civ evolves in time and always in a good way.

Then there is the "Just one more turn" thing. Many games can boast similar marketing one-liners but this one is the only one I know that is unquestionably a true and and apt description of what Civ's gameplays is about.

I do not have nearly as much time on my hands now to play games as I used to. (Family should always go first.) I very much hope I will find enough to enjoy the "just one more turn" experience with Civilization VI.

Greece, because I like Greek ancient history, and in civ games they reference it with units & structures. Btw,I think almost everyone misread the question 😛

I'm a big fan of 4x games. It's what I play the most of any genre and why I need a pc for my entertainment needs, from master of orion, stellaris, endless space and civilisation. Wasn't fond of alpha centaurai as other 4x games let you play at your own pace and it had a story to tell. I've briefly played civ 1 & 2 and loved the colonisation spinoff. Civ 3 was my favourite for a long time. I loved how it's 2d so ran on my old laptop with an obscure graphics chip (I forget the brand. Silicon?) and it resolved the turns fast on the 1.8hz Intel chip. I really didn't pay attention to the hardware on that computer as I didn't make it my own.

My favourite civ has to be Carthage in civ 5 lead by Queen Dido. Always been fascinated by Carthage, Etrusca, Malta and the milesians. Carthage's free harbour is a boon and its why I always look for a coast when settling early game.
Plus being able to March through mountains always makes me think how badass Hamilcar must have been, and how different our modern world would be if Carthage had allied with Greek generals like Pyrrhus.

Civ I. Sure, the graphics were simple and the game more concise, but dang, that feeling of switching to a republic and watching your cities boom to 30+ population was sweet.

I loved the simplicity of the original Civ. We would play over spring break for days at a time. When one person would get tired, they'd take a nap. It was great to wake up and see how far the other person got.

I only started my journey with civ a few years ago with civ 4 and have only played civ 4 and 5 so far. I really liked civ 4 I felt it was a bit more in depth and challenging. But I would have to give it to civ 5 with the expansions, the expansions brought back a lot of things I loved, added a bit more depth, and best of all a better endgame. I also really like how you cant stack units in civ5, its weird to be able to have an entire army on one square, also civ 5 had a decent modding community with some interesting mods. I have put an obscene amount of time into both, at nearly 300 hours in civ5.

The Zulu because of their free culture and self healing early unit. It gives me many social policies and a good millitary.

In my opinion Poland in Civ V has many strengths and almost no weaknesses. Their special ability "Solidarity" gives you one free social policy per technological era. In Brave New World that means 6 free social policies by the information era: 1 for classical, 1 for medieval, 1 for renaissance, 1 for industrial, 1 for modern, 1 for information.

Without a doubt, Civ IV is my all time favourite civ. It was my first experience of a civilisation game and my dad introduced me to it, we had the best time playing against each other - although he always let me win 😛. Honestly that alone has made the game one that I will remember for my life, nuking my dad was the best. Although the unit stacking is weird after playing the new civs it just seems weird to fight through stacks and stacks of god damn tanks.

I think I spent most of my youth playing the first Civilization on Commodore Amiga. It was like the game of my dreams, the depth of it was something unmatched by any other game at that time. I still have fond memories of conquering the world as Zulu... Youth well spent.
