Yeah I am thinking shenanigans myself
I think if I use a hard OC and also cheat the Nvidia control panel I can hit high 40s
but that is with control panel set to disable all of the AA/AO/AF settings
not to start a flame war but we need some serious explanation and proof of that score

Only lie to yourself doing that. I could easily just change the numbers in PAINT, but what's the point?

Anyways, sent my 290x back a few days ago for a refund, was just testing stock cooler for myself anyways (if you want a cheap airplane engine, buy a 290x). 2x 780's on the way now, will run them in SLI and see what I get :)

my max was 1001 points, but I didn't save it. The old faithful 5850 still rocks :)

Nice run Bandi!

I have a R9 290 on the way. I will see just how hot and loud it is. I will probably get a Gelid Icy Vision for it, looks to be the best price/performance aftermarket cooler for the 290.

Hi,

I'm also planing to buy an R9 290 but I'm waiting for the Asus DC2T version.
All I need for it is a new PSU (400W won't be enough) and a new case - R9 290 is too long for my current box.

Yeah good idea. You will definitely want the model with better cooling. Go ahead and get a decent model ~600w power supply. The case should have good airflow. Those DCII cards are great at cooling the GPU but all that heat will linger in the case if you don't have decent airflow. Most midsize gaming PC cases should accommodate that size GPU.

Funny thing is just after taking the screenshot the 780 went into psycho mode and stopped being detected by nvidia driver altogether (was running for about 10 minutes total), 2 hours later and I'm back on my 7870 backup card... Time to RMA.

I'm thinking about a 750-850 W PSU - room for overclocking and PSUs are most efficient around 50-60% load, and for the case Fractal Design Define R4 - silent, roomy, good airflow.

60fps? It should be around 70fps... the score appears to be low.

From the sound of it, that card may have been on its way out.

Agreed, RIP GTX 780 Classified. Assuming no foul play envolved, EVGA should take really good care of you. That's why I tend to go with EVGA cards when I buy an nvidia chip.

Apparently R9 290's are terrible at Valley. When I get it I will post a score regardless, but perhaps this weekend when I have some free time I will make a 3DMark Firestrike thread so we can have some fun with that.

Any other decent GPU benches you guys would like to run?

Point taken.

A firestrike thread would be cool
I havent ran that one yet
see how my measly single 660Ti does at that LOL

Yeah, it was DOA, ran just long enough for Unigine and Passmark (surprisingly it benched higher than previous 5 posted scores) to run.

Anyways, I actually have another on the way already as I was planning to SLI them, so tomorrow when that one gets here I will run again and we can see the difference (at stock).

As for 290/290x, I posted a 290x run, a page or two back in the thread. Been testing quite a few GPU's lately, it did rather bad in comparison, think it was 53 or something avg.

According to the EVGA rep I spoke to it seems a lot of the 780 Classified ACX models are arriving dead, I find it odd that someone would admit that to me openly but it is what it is, hopefully the second card isn't DOA too.

Yeah I was looking over Valley scores on another forum and the 290/290x looks bad in this bench. But then in other benches I see it on par or better than the 780, even the 780ti in some cases. Maybe it's driver immaturity.

I get 8000+ In firestrike normal, not extreme.

Loud enough where I edited my fan curve to make 75% the highest speed because you don't even want to hear 100%. Right now I'm folding on it, it's 70C and my fan speed is about 59% and it's as loud as most other dual fan cards on 75%-100%. I probably have to get aftermarket cooling for it because I wont be able to fold this 24/7 with the noise and heat it produces.

Unless you're going to watercool, I would not buy a reference R9 290. Wait until the AIB's release custom cooled models because this is LOUD and HOT. I will pull off the heatsink tonight or tomorrow and check out the TIM application and reapply.

At 100% it sounds like a vaccum cleaner has been turned on inside of your case, not even exaggerating.

I sent mine back, I had it set at 75% also but after 2-3 days I couldn't stand it anymore.
