[citation][nom]MarioJP[/nom]Well actually you might want to hold that question just a bit. Their source engine really does need an upgrade badly. Don't get me wrong it looks nice and got a bit of an update. But it is time for an overhaul. The true testament is when valve rolls out a top notch game engine that can work on all platforms. And back to my rant. Where is my HL3 and HL2 epsiode 3. I guess valve does not believe in 3's.[/citation]

Yeah, Source does need a bit of a face-lift; but at least it launches on a platform that Epic and id have long since abandoned. That said, I thought Portal 2 was one of the best looking games lately, despite being tied to the Direct X 9c/OpenGL 2.x requirements of current generation consoles. Shows that even old engines can look good, with enough work put into them. But it would definitely be nice to see some Direct X 11/OpenGL 4.x support within Source.

While they are at it why not make the unreal engine 4 run on keper and haswell using tsx and then say it's for consoles.
Do they realize that haswell will change how games are made on the pc with Transactional Synchronization Extensions (TSX), a new set of instructions designed to improve multi-core efficiency.
Even with xbox360 programmers have problems programming for multiple core use if the new xbox is shipped with haswell things may change but i doubt that will happen.

[citation][nom]aggroboy[/nom]Problems of PC:1. Whatever horsepower advantage PC has gets swamped under layers upon layers of compatibilities and wrappers, just to make it work with billions of driver/OS/version/hardware permutations. John Carmack himself mentioned the hoops he had to jump just for one GPU vendor.2. A stable hardware platform like PS3/X360 for many years allows for developers to heavily optimize for it. That trumps the moving target that is the PC.3. PC Piracy. Really bad. Whatever claim you make about Xbox360 piracy, at least they can move millions on that platform.4. Terrible value for money. PS3 was introduced in 2006, and only in 2008 an expensive PC can play the same games today.5. Deceptively small, disproportionately vocal and polarized market.[/citation] You must be on crack or something....

[citation][nom]Christopher1[/nom]Eh? What are you talking about? Most consoles output at 720p if the connection is able to do so and the game supports that resolution. 1080p if the connection is able to do so and the game supports that resolution. The only console that doesn't do that are the handhelds and the Wii.[/citation]
LOL, no. Xbox 360 plays on 460p and lower graphic games on 720p. Ps3 ps3 always plays on 720p, which i don't consider HD. HD= 1080p 2140p 4280p 8560p

Hey now, sometimes, there are limits. No need to force Epic to go opensource, although I would like for them to actually make a new PC game (native PC game, not a port to PC) and do an excellent job of it.

Open source works well with many things, but not everything. I wouldn't want a company basing everything on open source code because it's more vulnerable (if hackers can see the code, then some of them are more likely to find vulnerabilities and then exploit them) and they might not care to do as good of a job on it if anyone can just use it.

if the U.S. is the PC world then why is it the only country the xbox 360 dominates in

Reading comprehension FAIL on the part of HALF of you.

When Sweenie was asked regarding next generation consoles he responded that compared to Farmville, what separates the leading consoles such as PS3 and 360 are their graphics.

"The thing that separates consoles from FarmVille is the fact that consoles define the high-end gaming experience," he said. "When you look for the best graphics available in the whole game industry today, you look at Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and those games are the best out there, bar none. And so the big opportunities for future consoles is to bring that to an entirely new level by delivering a dramatic increase in raw computing power."

He is not comparing PC 3D gaming such as BF3 and Crysis 2 to current consoles. He is comparing casual games to current consoles and what he would like from next generation of consoles so that next generation consoles can continue to have leading edge graphics over casual games such as Farmville, Minecraft, etc. Also, it's clear he realizes enhanced competition from smartphones and tablets and for that reason from his comments it's very obvious that he wants next generation consoles to have better graphics so that they can continue to differentiate themselves from the casual and handheld console markets.

It's amazing how so many people fail at reading comprehension.

That clearly includes a statement of his that says that consoles define the high end gaming experience and this is a complete lie. Consoles are nowhere near defining the high end gaming experience. You're the one who failed at reading comprehension.

@ alphaalphaalpha

It's evident from the context of the discussion that when Sweenie is responding to the question with 2 parts he is referencing his responses to what he wants out of next generation consoles. Nowhere does he say anything about consoles defining high-end gaming experience among all devices and never would he ever make such a stupid claim.

This is especially true since the very same article mentions that only Kepler is able to run the Samaritan demo on 1 GPU with all the bells and whistles. Sweenie obviously knows that PC graphics define the industry but in reference to next generation consoles he wants them to provide enough horsepower so that he can create more realistic games for consoles.

There is no way any one with his experience would ever claim that consoles have more advanced graphics than the PC. Context baby, context!
