Hi I just upgraded from an ECS K7VZA Mainboard with a AMD XP 2400+ with 512 megs SDRAM to a Shuttle AN35N Ultra with a AMD XP 3000+ @ 333FSB with dual 512 Megs totaling 1024 @ 333 FSB.

ok I am a gamer who likes to have the graphics on full but I have to have atleast 40fps or I lol get headachs from the choppines. I am really into graphics so I like to be able to play games with all options on just to see how good they look, so lowing quality is not an option. I am realy looking forward to HL2 and Doom 3.

Now I am not just upgrading for these games alone but I do understand that their engines will be licenced to other developers in due time, HL2 engine has alread been licenced to another company.

With that said did I make a mistake on going with this upgrade? I am willing to drop more $$ into another upgrade to a 3000 64 but a question remains will this work with my current 2,700 ram? I don't care about running the ram at a slower FSB that the cpu if thats possible I will take the profomance hit.

But will the extra money be worth it? How long will this new socket 939 last? Should I just wait? Any suggestions please! Also I cannot aford an FX chip as I just also laid a lot of green down on a new Vid Card.

I have a friend willing to buy the board I just bought at close to the price I paid so I only have about $250 to spare, Give or take a few.

Thanks!

David

First of all, an AMD 64 would have been a better buy, and if you can afford it, it would be worth the money to upgrade, the only problem is you would need to get DDR400 or better, which means a RAM upgrade as well.

Second, there isn't a graphics card built yet that will run Doom 3 on Ultra High, as the requirements for this is a GPU with 512MB memory.

What vid card did you get?

Your best bet, if graphics are such as issue, would be to pick up some PC3200 RAM and then OC the hell out of your CPU, get every last FPS out of your system.
