Hi,

I currently started building a PC about 4 years ago with the intention to upgrade (a lot sooner than I am doing) Now i'm looking to upgrade just wanted a bit of advice. My knowledge isn't great but I managed to put it together myself

Current spec:
CPU: I5-6600K
Cooler: Cooler Master hyper 212
Motherboard: AsRock Z170 Pro4 AXT
Ram: G.Skill Ripjaw (2x4gb) DDR 3200
Storage:
HDD - 500gb (from my previous Pc)
SSD - PNY CS900 120gb
Power supply: Corsair bronze 500w
GPU: integrated HD graphics 520 HD
Monitor: 24in HD Samsung curved. 60hz. (Free-sync capabilities) 4ms refresh

Currently i'm running windows on my SSD but not much space and my 500gb HDD seems to have old files i cant remove (and daren't wipe it while its got stuff i need)
The ram is also running at 2133
While i haven't got much money to upgrade a graphics card is the major thing i'm looking at.

CPU:
Not looking to change

Graphics:
I'm looking at something that compliments the 5500k really well, I started by thinking 1050ti, then thought about 1060 etc, but budget wise i'm thinking about the 1650 super. Would this be a good option? in order my current thoughts are:
  • 1650 super
  • 1650
  • 1050 ti
  • 1060 6gb (maybe a bot above budget but if its really worth the extra)
Do the different makes make a difference? I've seen MSI super X and (ROG?) are meant to be good, some have a higher clock speed but more noise, are they worth getting over the MSI?

RAM
I want 16gb, Does 3200 make a difference? I read it will run at 2133 unless i overclock it, and is that worth doing? if so does the make matter? Does the CL number matter too much and the timings? and what about heat spreader? so far i've seen
  • Team T-Force Vulcan 16gb (2x8) CL16 DDR4-300 memory (Really cheap option, if i'm running at 2133 anyway should i get this, or a better make?)
  • Corsair Vengeance 16gb (8x2) LPX 16 DDR4-3600 CAS 18.
(This would be a more expensive option, if i'm running my RAM higher than 2133 is it really worth pushing the boat out a bit more, will i see a difference?)

Storage
I want a HDD and and SSD, the SSD to play the more demanding games and the HDD for the less demanding plus storage
HDD - A couple of cheap options, but the Seagate Barracuda 1TB, 3.5 7200rpm seems a cheap option and will it do the job?
SSD
Another one where i'm thinking does the make impact the decision. I've seen a couple of toshiba and Samsung at 512 but are around the same price as
- Team GX2 1TB 2.5.

Also would any extra be worth getting? I don't need a wireless internet, but is there anything for controllers?
All of these upgrades come to around £300. Im hoping for the prices to come down a bit on black friday. I was hoping to spend around £200, but already due to going from the 1050ti to the 1650 pushes it up a bit. I could potentially sell my RAM which is on Amazon new at around £120
Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

Solution
For ram if you want to run higher OC speeds it would be best to get a kit that is on the QVL list:

https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170 Pro4/#Memory

Although the ones tested at higher speeds are likely to be the expensive ones.

I would forget about 3600Mhz running 3200 in dual channel would be a win

A 1650 Super looks like a pretty good option. Unless you want to risk the used market and pick up a 1050 ti for less

Is it worth going for 3200 and OC? my current RAM is running at 2133 but is 3200 capable. I'm going to be taking this out and buying new RAM. Is it worth me paying the extra and OC to get 3200, or better to go for the cheaper option of 2133?

In terms of 1050ti, the 1650 super is much better isnt it? or again am I not getting much more out of it for the extra price?

thanks,

Quite a big difference between 1050 ti and 1650 super:

For ram I would get at least some 3000Mhz and hopefully you will be able to run it at 2666Mhz

You can pick up a used rx570 for around $100 which was most likely a mining card quite easily on eBay. Nvidia 1650 Super and Radeon 5500xt $140 if you keep an eye out. I would avoid the 1050ti, a rx570 can be had quite cheaply and will outperform it. Just make sure on the used market they will take returns, just in case.

For new I would go for the 1650 Super or Radeon 5500xt.

Thanks for the replies.

Im currently now looking at

1660 super
16660
1650 super

in that order. Will my 500W Bronze + be ok with this, the I5-6600k, 16gb ram, a HDD and an SSD?

any AMD's I have seen, seem to under perform against these especially for the price. Is there any that would be extremely cheap second hand that would perform similar or better? Also they seem to be more power hungry, would i have to upgrade if i went RTX? Also i i decided to OC my 5500k would this draw more power?

Finally the ram I have, i just changed to the 3200 xmp profile. Its working fine. SO thinking about it, I suppose 3200 RAM would be good if i could get it.
