I have been eyeballing the new Ryzen 5000 as my next upgrade this year, and I was going to transfer my CPU to her setup but I need to find a new motherboard for her first because my mobo is a b250 board with very low ram speed capabilities. I'm giving her my i7-7700K and was wondering what motherboard can I get that's compatible with it, but also have good upgrade ability as well? She runs Photoshop and multiple monitors and her Ryzen 1200 just isn't doing too well with it. I assume the hyperthreading will do well for her until I'm able to get a higher core count cpu in the following 6 months.

My setup:
CPU: i7-7700k 4.2 Ghz Quad-Core
Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAXX GT BK
Motherboard: MSI Bazooka B250m
Ram: 2x8 XPG Spectrix D60G 16GB 3000 Mhz
SSD: Intel 760p Series 128 GB M.2-2280 NVME
SSD: Team Group 1TB SSD
HDD: Toshiba 2TB 7200 RPM HDD
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070- Ti
PSU: Seasonic 80+ Gold 550 Watt
Case: ATX Full Tower from Cyber Power
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Her setup:
CPU: Ryzen 1200 3.1 Ghz Quad-Core
Cooler: Stock AMD Cooler
Motherboard: MSI A320M Pro-VD Plus
Ram: 2x8 HyperX Predator 16GB 3200 Mhz
SSD: DATARAM 250 GB SSD
HDD: 1TB 7200 RPM HDD (not sure the model or brand)
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
PSU: I believe it's a 80+ White 500 watt. Will be replaced with my 550 gold 80+ once I get a new GPU and PSU
Case: ATX Full Tower from Skytech
OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Since you have a K suffix processor, you need to pick up a Z270 chipset motherboard. Pair that motherboard and CPU with a DDR4-3200MHz dual channel ram kit to get the best out of the platform. What do the rest of the parts in your build, i.e, PSU, Storage, cooler, case and GPU, look like?

Please include your current system's specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Case:
OS:

Include a second set of specs like the above but with your wife's specs so we can gauge if the upgrade is worthwhile or if she can benefit more from just a processor change(AM4 socket).

What are your specs, and what are hers?

I7-7700K will be a very nice upgrade.
For comparison, ryzen 1200 has 4 threads and a passmark rating of 6350.
That is when all 4 threads are fully utilized. A likely occurrence with Photoshop.
The single thread rating is 1934,
By comparison, the i7-7700K has 8 threads and a rating of 9226/2772.
Intel does not much depend on ram speeds, so I would not chase a Z motherboard for that reason.
A better reason for a Z motherboard would be so you can overclock.
As of 6/9/17
What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.4v Vcore.

I7-7700K
4.9 83%
5.0 62%
5.1 29%
5.2 6%

A nice boost, but I would just switch and then decide if you need more.
Even with a z Motherboard, there is no upgrade past the i7-7700K

Perhaps of more importance for photoshop is a large amount of ram.
I would be looking to upgrade ram to 32 or even 64 gb.
$100 should buy you a 2 x 16gb kit.
If the kit has the same specs as your presumed 2 x 8gb kit, then there is a reasonable chance that they would work together, giving you 48gb.
Here is an older study on ram speed scaling:

Does wife have a discrete graphics card for the 3 monitors?

I updated the post with the specs for both. I also forgot to mention that I will be giving her my 80+ gold 550 watt psu along with the gtx 1070 ti once I snag a 3070/80 in the next 6 months.

Also she only has 2 monitors atm. One 1440p 144 hz and one 1080p 1440 hz.

one think you could do for her is a bios upgrade and plop an 8-core/16 thread r7-2700X in her 320. (maybe 3700X), combined with the suggested RAM, gpu and psu upgrades. 2700X is $216, 3700X is $284

since the 320 only has 2 ram slots, we don't have to match your existing ram, just replace it.
you can bump up to 2x16 G.Skill Trident Z 32 GB for $99, or 2x32 Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 64 GB for $199, both are 3200 CAS 16 ram sticks.
a $300-400 upgrade for her to have a screaming machine

I don't think the A320 is compatible with Zen 2, even with a bios update.
