Upgrading to Core i7 Extreme

Is it good time to upgrade to core i7 965 according to prices and technology?, i will need to buy MB, CPU & memory

Anything above it is simply waste of money.

i do an all over upgrade nearly every three and a half years with slight modifications in the middle, so this is what i want to do but it is not a good thing to buy today and loose a some of money with in a month, i was thinking of the EVGA classified, 6g corsair 1866, i7 3.2 965, i already have the PSU enermax 1250w coolermaster v10 to 8800gtx with arctic cooler extreme and a gigabyte sumo 5115 and lots of HDD one of them is the volci raptor 300g, i do buy a lot but prices remain unchanged for a reasonable period, so will the prices expected to go down soon, another thing i was wodering if the coolermaster v10 fits in the EVGA MB can you help with this as well?

whenthe i9 comes out i7 prices should've dropped bout 10%-15% but for the price of that 965 you could buy a 920 or 940 an clock it higher with liquid cooling

The 965 dont OC any higher then the 920, so you might as well save 100s and get the 920.

If you want I'll sell you a garanteed 4.0 920 rig with warranty for way less then your looking @ now. PM me if interested.

There is absolutely no reason to buy a 965 right now. When it came out, it overclocked a bit better than the 920 and 940 (C0 steppings), so there was a reason to get it (though it was still a huge price increase for a somewhat minor speed increase). Now that the D0 stepping is out, the average 920 is capable of the same overclocks as the average 965. If your heart is set on an extreme edition, get the 975, as it is typically capable of better overclocks than the 965 or the 920 D0. Even then though, you have to look at what kind of budget you have and whether you can really justify a fairly minor performance bump for a fairly major price bump.

15% is a good save, the coolernaster v10 is v.good, and i have 2 VGA 8800gtx with coolers so and a nice airflow case and that is it for me concerning coolers, what about the motherboards do you think new boards that support a wider varity of CPUs will appear soon, can you help with the coolermaster v10 will fit in the EVGA MB

The V10 will fit with the 1366 adapter kit.

Same as the 920, since the 920 can run the same speeds. I will never buy the higher cocked factory cpu over a cheaper overclocked one ever never.

Some think having the 965 is bragging rights. I think it makes people look dumb as if they have more $$ then brains.

They come with adapters for varios sockets, if you only used the 775 one and tossed the rest good luck.

no i have the 1366 kit, so this will elevate the cooler v10 to pass over the boards cooler surrounding the cpu which is in line with the sound socket?

like everyone else is saying dont get the 965 (at least not right now anyways). the price to performance ratio is very large compaired to the 920.

Same price as a 920.

As I said, when it came out, it was worth it if you had to have the best, since on average, it overclocked slightly better than a C0 920. However, it overclocks pretty much the same as a D0 920, so since the D0 stepping came out, the 965 is pretty much never the right choice.

If you absolutely want an extreme edition, what's wrong with the 975?

what about the 6.4 Intel QuickPath Interconnect & 4.8 Intel QuickPath Interconnect doesn't count? how to know the D0 920?

Pretty much all current chips are D0. They switched over last spring, so any remaining C0 are old stock from last spring. As for QPI, you can easily get a 920 to a 6.4 QPI speed, and I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference anyways.
