Hello,

I wanted to ask your guys opinion on if this is too good to be true. I was browsing the used market for an upgrade and just noticed a brand new listing for an RTX 3070, which claims to be "broken". As described, the card boots into windows, is able to withstand FurMark without any crashes, but crashes when trying to load up a game or something related to the PhysX 3D. The seller is currently unable to provide any screenshots of the crash, but the crash seems to be related to DirectX or PhysX. I'm thinking this could be as simple as a driver or BIOS issue. I am really tempted to see if this is a scam or not, as it costs only 50 EUR (compared to used but working 300 EUR).

Could this really be just a driver issue? Does the GPU have anything hardware related to the PhysX engine?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Aw man. I was really hoping it could be a simple issue :/ I guess you can never know, but I'm thinking maybe its worth risking the 50 EUR. 😀
If just a driver issue, the seller would definitely not be selling for 50. Yes, the GPU is the PhysX processor and performs all of those calculations when using a Nvidia GPU.

If this was still under warranty (and hadn't been physically tampered with), a return to the manufacturer might resolve the issue.

Your money is likely spent better elsewhere.

It's an MSI RTX 3070 GAMING X TRIO 8GB.
MSI has a 3 year warranty on GpUs, but only to the original purchaser.

The 3070 was released in late Oct 2020, so if he bought right after release, it just went out of warranty. 3 months ago.

Unlikely he bought it that early. So, when it failed for him, it was probably still under warranty.

Since he did not avail himself of that free service....some other weirdness is afoot.

As said above, Run away, don't look back.
