[citation][nom]rebel1280[/nom]Really guys, were comparing the openness of japan? How many memes are on the internet that start with "And in Japan" or "only in Japan" dude, you want sexual openness fine, but where do you draw the line. You can buy used woman's underwear in vending machines in Japan. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to such games as this (though i wouldn't play them, i prefer violence and actual real life sex is better ) but where do you draw the line. Sooner than later, were going to have tentacle X-Men cartoons as well if it goes unguarded.[/citation]
Why do we need to draw a line? I say let anyone indulge any fantasy they want (as long as nobody else is hurt/exploited in the process). There is always the question of what children have access to, but I'd be a lot more worried about kids watching violent/gory action movies than porn. What's worse, a kid seeing people have sex or a kid watching someone's head getting blown off? One leads to uncomfortable questions for the parents and the other leads to probable life long mental trauma. Why should the opinion be different when it happens on TV or in a game as opposed to real life?

pretty lame I mean why is sex so taboo? Its a major part of life, whats the big friggin deal? probably a result of religion making everything "bad" or sinful.

I disagree with Valve on this one. I would love to play some sexually mature and erotic games. That market is horribly under-served right now. I'm an adult, comfortable with my sexual kinks, and not bothered at all about playing a video game to unleash that stuff. It's a shame the people making the decisions still are absolutely petrified about wandering into the adult category.

Think of how much more terrifying a game like Skyrim would be if the dragons could rape you in addition to slashing, biting, and using breath weapons. You could have an affair with a village elder's daughter or son! You could beat down, dominate, and then humiliate your opponents if you wanted to. Think of the possibilities!

[citation][nom]Verrin[/nom]I think it's traditionally a religious mentality, that is that sex is more crude than violence. More fundamental Christians have always demonized sex, but have not historically been that way about violence. They were always okay with burning and stoning heretics. Even though things aren't like this anymore (at least in western culture), that view that sex is dirty, improper or vile has still carried over to the modern day. When you think about it, it really is a bizarre stance. How could it be that a nipple is more offensive? How is it that something we all inherently do or desire be so frowned upon? Something that is fairly harmless too, especially when consensual! We live in really strange society.[/citation]

"Fairly harmless" heh... typical narrow minded liberal.

Sexual themes are more taboo than violence hence them being subject to stricter penalties.

[citation][nom]kcorp2003[/nom]I know the Japanese market is flooded with similar games like sexy beach.[/citation]

It's also filled with rape simulators so take that for what you will.

[citation][nom]NuclearShadow[/nom]I think Valve did the right thing personally. While I have nothing against such content existing I don't blame Valve for not letting that content on because kids would no doubt get their hands on it. Whenever I have to put my age in to view a game on steam despite myself being a adult they simply believe any birth-date I enter. I am sure even a young child can figure this out just as fast. And no, this is not a hypocritical stance because I fully welcome violent games. Again I do not object to such content existing if it has sexual themes to it. I however would like Valve to truly put more effort into blocking minors from extremely violent games as well. If Valve can achieve a working method that stops kids than I say bring on the sexual games as well. But at this time it would just be a mistake and there is no need to pile this on the violent games issue. Also I want to make it known that I am a father. I pre-approve content for my son before letting him view or play the content. I think we can all agree this is the responsible thing to do but sadly not every parent does the right thing. This is also why we need sex-ed in school because we cannot rely on many parents to do the right thing and properly raise and educate their child alone. If the parents fail the child then it is up to society to do the right thing. I believe children are worth it, don't you?
Oh really?Clearly mentions fornication in the list and even says those who do it will not enter heaven. Corinthians 6:8-10Bible clearly doesn't support homosexual sex and even orders those involved to be put to death Genesis 20:13You are not even suppose to look at a woman who is menstruating Leviticus 18:19 Also if you have sex with one during this time you are both to be exiled Leviticus 20:18Although one may find it immoral the bible calls for the death of adultery for all involved which I am sure almost everyone will find too extreme. Deuteronomy 22:22The bible even goes as far as blaming and punishing rape victims, if they are a virgin girl they have to be put to deaths if their screams were not heard by others. Deuteronomy 22:23-24Female prisoners of war are free to rape and forced into marriage Deuteronomy 21:11-14Need I go on? I can give plenty of more examples. The bible is not only insane about sexual topics but even when it comes to the vile of rape it always punishes the victim. You must have never opened up your own religious book to be unaware of these things. The bible is absolutely the opposite of moral on this issue. Intolerant, victim punishing, and ignorant and even pro-rape.[/citation]

I find it funny that your most extreme citations are from the Old Testament. The Old Testemant hasn't been truly relevant in your typical christian practice for hundreds of years. Debate the logical validity of abandoning portions of a "sacred" text all you want, but most christian people today have never read the Old Testament. In every church it's new testament bibles. In every hotel room there's a new testament bible.

In fact, it's a point of contention between Muslims and Christians. Christians abandoned the more extreme teachings, like the ones you described, by switching to the study of the New Testament. Muslims however have the same old Koran they had 2000 years ago.

If you're going to pick about religion, do it without spinning the information. If this wasn't in fact spin in an attempt to challenge people, then I'm sorry but you made a significant error in logic.

[citation][nom]Zingam[/nom]Have you ever thought that women are not interested in porn that much? Women prefer the real thing and they can get it much easier, I guess. I have yet to see a woman interested in porn.[/citation]
You obviously live in a giant glass bubble, you need to get out more

ok so bassically , if you are a big publisher with s--- loads of cash you can get your game on steam with it's juicy bits still in ( EA - mass effect , Rockstar - GTA san andreas) yet if an indie dev puts any thign remotely like it on green light it gets removed ... i call BS on valve.

Its ok for kids to play Gran Theft Auto. Most parents dont care about the Mature ratings. Kids have fun stealing cars and killing people in the game. But when it comes to games with sexual theme. SLAP! WTF why you playing those kind of games?

Parents these days, they rather have their kids learn how to steal and kill then sex.

Whats worst...? Kill and steal or sex?

Thumbs up for Sex and thumbs down for Steal and Kill

Whatever that means. I already stated why it's frowned upon, and you really haven't justified why things should be that way. How is sex harmful? Seriously. You make it sound like I'm encouraging rape or some other form of violent form of sexual conduct. Typical narrow minded conservative.

Yes, let's just sweep 2000 years of Christian Mythology under the rug, hmm? We wouldn't want people to know the origins or original doctrine that forms the basis of Christian Mythology.

If Christians had to abandon their previous teachings because they were too brutal is just signs that they had to bend to the will of modern society, when it become bloody apparently how backwards their faith is. Sadly, this isn't entirely true either-- there's still plenty of sects that still abide by the Old Testament, and you have to be completely out of your mind to think that all Christians, even some moderate ones, don't still attest to it anymore.

The way I see it, at least the urge of many rapists-to-be are removed in the process. Violent crime of all sorts are much lower in Japan than say, US. Part of that is thanks to a zero-tolerance policy of hard drugs and a ban of all arms, but I also credit some to the extreme openness that content creators enjoy.

In other words, virtual rape harms no one; real rape produces a real victim and more. There'll always be people that get prodded on to carry out their virtual activities in real life, but such numbers are small.

FYI - Islam came into being about 1300 years ago.

I thought they removed it because it used copyrighted material. However, thanks to this I have thought of a potentially successful Steam Competitor. A platform that mimics steam with strictly sexually mature content. By god I will be a millionaire. Time to make a kickstarter project and get Gab Newells blessing.

Consent should be the least of your concerns; if anything, it's the societal issues that plague such sexual relations.

Pregnancies, STDs, single moms, stigmas, objectification, lack of self-respect and will-power and jesus to come to think of it... getting married to a man/woman whose had an active sexual past alludes nothing but to the fact that they're nothing but a materialistic item that moves from one person to another... how "true" is your "love" for someone who has no issues getting it in the sack with a stranger.

As always, western society puts their whims/desires/wants/personal-freedoms before long term societal issues even if the result can be potentially devastating.

Proper sexual education and treating sex as something that is okay to indulge in, is a solution to a lot of problems that you raise about it. And just because someone loves or is accepting of sex, doesn't mean they're going to run around having one-night-stands or being incapable of commitment or loving someone. I've had plenty of sexual partners, but I was still loyal and loving to each of them, and no one got hurt from anything relating to sex. I'm not sure what kind of women you'd been dating, but I've found plenty of loving and caring individuals who have an active sexual history. Some do shift partners for other incompatibilities, not because they're incapable of love or loyalty.

Denying our sexual desires and not encouraging proper care when doing it (either by encouraging abstinence or by demonizing it) only leads to grotesque psychological shifts regarding it. Much like the priests who abstain from masturbation and sex develop warped sexual desires to pedophilia, simply because they don't maintain or relieve their sexual desires or sexual tensions. Our sexual urges will come out one way or another, and it's best to control them in a healthy manner that isn't against our biological drives. If you think we are 100% entirely free-willed, you are mistaken. We're driven by hormones and biochemistry. You can stop yourself from eating, but your body will surely make it unbearable or miserable for you even with a strong will, much like it does with sexual desires. And that's not a way to live, in at best misery or discomfort. And if you find it particularly easy to refrain from sex, don't pretend everyone has the same sexual drive or hormonal influence as you. Especially for the young, it's a force that needs proper management and one that can be difficult to control if not channeled properly.

I'm all for teaching proper sexual education, encouraging use of proper protection or precautions, and for choosing a partner wisely. And, not being shy to masturbation. It's a great tool for relieving sexual tension, and it's good for the body and mind.

You can call it Steamy. Cofounder Status Achieved!

Good that they took it down, sex is evil and wrong. Good that somebody protects us and watches over us. Hopefully after the next presidential elections sex will be banned by law.

"And just because someone loves or is accepting of sex, doesn't mean they're going to run around having one-night-stands or being incapable of commitment or loving someone."

Actually yes, it does. Commitment isn't just about not cheating with one's partner, but also requires a LOT of patience, self-control and respect; sleeping around with people previously speaks volumes about one's aptitude and character.

"I've had plenty of sexual partners, but I was still loyal and loving to each of them, and no one got hurt from anything relating to sex."

lol how true is this "love" of yours if you share the most intimate act a human being can perform, with others? How special is this so called "love".

Despite the 'education', the aforementioned issues still exist; solution is abstinence.

If you're horny... then just masturbate, but sleeping around is definitely not what people should be doing — at least not those who have an ounce of self-respect.

[citation][nom]JonnyDough[/nom]Not to make this a religious debate but I'm so tired of conservatives. This is a religious, non-scientific mentality from a time when superstition ruled. Sex is part of nature. Embrace it.The Pledge of Allegiance should be re-written to not contain religious babble, as it was originally. Our money should have "In God We Trust" removed (because many of us feel we are being incorrectly represented as we do not believe in God!)We keep having idiot people dictate what is socially acceptable, people who are afraid of sex ruin our entertainment, when in truth we should promote healthy sex and educate our children about it. Perversion is not lust, do not confuse the two. True perversion (which involves violence and non-consent to sexual activity) comes from a lack of healthy sexual contact and healthy sexual growth during puberty, and actually leads to more rapists and sociopaths. The Bible belt is where the most online porn is consumed in America, and it is conservatives (i.e. those who claim/try to be celibate but obviously cannot be as it defies animal instincts) that end up doing the most grotesque acts. Good psychologists already know this.In other cultures, the most conservative areas are also where the most heinous crimes happen involving children or rape.We need to learn that to fight sexual assaults we actually need to EMBRACE sex in our culture and instead fight the conservative that leads to close-minded thinking and closet freaks that can't contain their lust and so do things to others against their will in secret.[/citation]

Money didnt not have the words "in god we trust" printed until the red scare of the 1950s. However, the pledge of allegiance was written by a Christian Socialist and Flag salesman and always contained the phrase "One nation under god". It was written tool to sell flags to schools, not as a national oath. A nation that believes in individual rights, and ideological diversity should not be idolizing the state. Fuck the pledge of allegiance or any such form of state worship.

BTW, your analysis of what makes a sociopath is probably twice as batshit crazy and close minded as all the religious bullshit you think is so harmful to our society. Essentially youre saying, not getting laid as a teenager turns people into psychopaths...that is far more harmful thinking than some misguided, zealous attempts to protect kids from icky sex. I doubt a single "good psychologist" would touch your statements with a 30 foot pole.

I'll join the chorus and say I think this is hypocritical. I do like Valve, and Steam, I think they're doing good for the community with Greenlight. However, I disagree with them on their strict 'No sex!' policy. Especially considering the OCEAN of ultra violent shooters on Steam. I mean, could this Seduce Me game be any worse than something like Dead Space 2?

I'm getting sick and tired of the absolutely ENDLESS torrent of games that are just war simulators, simple 2D puzzle games, hack and slash games, fantasy themed mage and warriors killing monsters and orcs, horror FPS games, etc, etc.. It's all becoming such a blur of the same old crap. And I swear, if I see one more game with zombies in them..

(Off Topic: Damn game dev's love zombies, because the AI is so simple to program. while(alive) { walk towards player; if(nearPlayer) attack; } STOP CHEATING YOU BASTARDS! CODE INTELLIGENT BAD GUYS! Create an NPC for me to fight which takes longer than 30 minutes to code FFS! >:L)

I don't mind lots of big guns, explosions, and car chases. It's fun, sure! But games today need something more than what they are already. They need more character driven story, romance/lust/physical flirting/suggestive conversations/bashing/sex between characters! Lust/romance/love/horniness is a part of not just human society, but humans in general, and if video games are going to be considered art or stories the same as movies, they need to start exploring those themes as well!

IRL people have sex all the time. IRL people rarely dismember each other.

Seems to me that simulated violence should be considered worse than simulated sex.

Hey, I want to play games like this! We all need sex, legitimate, discreet, and safe sex! It seems Valve has a double standard. It's too bad and I think this is a form of discrimination on intellectual property.

It's AMERICA's fault with all the prudes in the office suits. Here is an example of a game published in Japan for Nintendo which was censored for America.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golgo_13:_Top_Secret_Episode

Golgo 13 is one of the first NES games to feature sex, drug use and graphic violence. It was an unusual release, because at the time Nintendo of America had strict content guidelines preventing the release of such content on its systems. Although the depictions were toned down from the original Japanese counterparts and limited by the 8-bit technology of the NES, it was not all together clear how this content was released uncensored.

The Japanese version even had an alternate sequence (prompting the player to "press the B button and have the kids look away from the screen") which had Cherry remove her dress leaving her dressed only in panties for a few seconds.

In the sequel, The Mafat Conspiracy, scenes are even more 'graphic' taking into consideration the technology of the time.

Well NES was just an 8bit gaming machine back in the 80's (!) then but hey, I did not know there was any censorship then when I played the American port of the game, until I got my hands on the Japanese original.

Sure a line must be drawn somewhere to define the limits but it might as well be left to us to decide and not to some big brother knows best figure.
