The speed of light is as fast as it can be when in a vacuum. Since light slows down depending on the medium it passes through, and a vacuum is the absense of light, then i don't think there is any substance we can introduce that won't just slow it down any more.

Maybe there is a way using electromagnetism to do so or something, but I'm pretty sure that people a lot smarter than us would have figured it out by now.

Let's put this in a time capsule to see how it sounds in 10 years (provided this thread ends before then 🙁 ):

Hi. I would like to know if my old computer can work again. I will tell the specs:

CPU: E6800
Hard disk: WD740GD (Raptor 2)
GFX card: Qual SLI (7950gtx x 2)
Sound card: Soundblaster X-Fi
Network: Gigabit

Does it can work again?

The only theory I have about string is that it is relatively easy to pull it in a straight line but it's not so easy to push it in a straight line.

Comptia_Rep's spelling just broke my spell checker... ack

Okie dokie! I'll just copy all the text into a word document, and then start a new thread in 10 years. Or maybe we should just keep it going until then.

Haha. That piece of junk? You'll have to highly optimize windows heaven if you're ever guna get it to run on that thing.

This thread is going to become so old that I would expect to see this posted sometime soon by maypep necro...

Hi. I would like to know if my old computer can work again. I will tell the specs:

Motherboard: ASUS
Graphic card: Geforce 6200 TurboCache 256 mb
CPU: Pentium D 920 2.8 GHZ Dual cores
HardDisk: SamSung 250 GB 7200 RPM
OS: Windows XP Media Edition
PSU: 350W
2048 MB RAM

Does it can work again?

Thus begin the thread anew...

(Sorry kitty!)

I read an article where researchers got light to travle faster tha light by making it go backwards. They used some new material to "reflect" it and somehow it went faster. Now i didn't understand everything in it cuz it was like 3 am.... Also i personally think it can go faster anyway. I think if enough gravity pulls it it should go faster. A black hole for instance could have a laser poited directed perfectly at it and i think the light would accelerate. But i don't know.

I think the problem with light going faster than light speed may have something to do with relativity. If something goes faster than light wouldn't it go back in time or something? I'm not really that versed in the oddities of relativity, but it seems like if time slows down as velocity approaches light speed, would time go backwards if velocity exceeded light speed? I bet something really odd would happen either way, and it would likely be extremely difficult to measure.

i like ham and eggs
just had to add a post b4 i call any one and tell them of a fabled thread that has got to b a net record or something this is a thread Ill tell my grand kids about...

I think what happens if your exceed the spead of light you can look back and see the past, e.g., you could look back and see yourself. Which then raises the question of whether you could look back and see your death?

It can't be real...how someone could see his/her own death? It doesn't make any sense! When you're dead, you're dead point. :?

Now about the light traveling faster issue, this is where string theory is supposed to come in handy. Even if one could travel at many warp speeds, there are distances too far away and wide that at light/warp speeds alone you'll never reach in a life time. This is not considering the parallel universes theory, already discussed on previous pages...lol!

if i were to hock a lugie into space...how long until it reaches the speed of light during an eclipse?

You could not hock one faster then the pull of gravty (9.8/m/s/s). If you started from space, it would freeze right away then burn up as it approched the eclipse. If it was away from the eclipse, it would burn up anyway from the suns energy. If it was nowhere near the suns energy *impossible, then it would continue at the rate at which you hocked it as things do not move faster for no reason. It would however, slow down due to gravitational friction as it passed objects.

n00bz!!

What a bunch of "FUD," the spit will boil!

I think he is just trying to find somebody to get mad at (he is ANGRY duck after all). He got mad because somebody made a long post.

I don't run around the forumz looking for people to scream at; I just get mad when people do dumb sh!t which screws stuff up for others. His super-wide post was funny at first (I've done a post like that, too), but it's not funny when it's messing up your brower window.

For the record, every time that I've done either a really long or wide post, I have edited it to a reasonable proportion.

Because this thread has no topic anymore, I'm going to brag about what I did today:

It was my mom's 20-year law school reunion, so we down to Ann Arbor, to the University of Mighigan (U of M) law shcool. There was a breakfast, followed by a speech from the dean, and a speech from former Illinos senator Peter Fitzgerald (he's from the same graduating year as my mom; w00t!) about his experiences as a civil servant (very interesting). Then there was a "tailgate" lunch (not really a tailgate; it was a buffet lunch served under a tent in the law school's courtyard).

Then we walked over to Michigan Stadium, which is where the Wolverines (U of M football team; one of the best in the country) plays. They were playing Central Michigan (CMU), which isn't one of the major teams (nothing like the Ohio State or Michigan State games), so it was an easy victory for the men in maize and blue. The game was postponed 12 minutes into the first quarter, because those girly football players are afraid of a little thunder and lightning (it was actually raining like hell; everyone was totally soaked). There was about 45 minutes of downtime, during which nothing worth telling occured. The game resumed 30 minutes after the last recorded lightning strike, and U of M won by about 30 points.

And, of course, all the frat houses were littered with red party cups and there was a strong smell of beer throughout the whole city. I can't wait till college

I know that this is totally off topic, but I just HAD to brag about what I did today.

Oh, yeah; happy 40th, Star Trek!
