I heard that you can walk through walls(according to string theory)

Actually, you can walk through walls according to quantum physics. The chances of this are just astronomically small. The chances of that happening anywhere before the universe collapses (assuming that is what will happen, i.e. 'big crunch') are very small.

Also, pissed off aquatic bird, i was jk. It is inconsiderate to not fix a post of others comlain though.

I've heard rumours that this thread has been nominated for the top 10 threads of all times, because it's amuzing, entertaining, full of knowledge, creative ideas, ...!

I thought you were Dutch? Michigan's a long way to get to a reunion to see people you don't like.

My dad's Belgian, my mom's American. I was born in Belgium, and when I was 2 years old (in 1994), we moved back to Michigan, where we've lived for the past 12 (soon to be 13) years.

Yeah yeah - and you're all just Canadians right?

Yeah i'm Canadian so all other countries seem small. Although i like the land here, i hate the people and the socialist attitude so i like the states in that way. Europe is just too commy for my tastes and they have retard tv.

Yeah our TV is retarded because it´s full of crappy tv-series from US

You guys are getting off topic here 😉

Last I logged in, we were talking about the speed of light and people were arguing whether the speed of light actually changes.

To be exact (in the real world) NO.

The speed of light appears to change only when passing though materials of difference densities. As light moves inside these materials, the photons (light partials) are absorbed and emitted, and the denser the material, the more times it is absorbed and emitted, thus slowing down the overall rate at which light can move. So it would be more proper to say "the average rate at which light moves though materials changes proportionally to the density of the material it passes though". In a prism, different wavelengths of light move at different speeds, which is why we see color instead of white light.

*but light always moves at the speed of C. The time it takes for it (the photon) to be absorbed and remitted slows down the overall average speed.

ok so here's my problem....i'm out in space minding my own business traveling at the speed of light. When i look behind me, i see nothing because the light can't catch up to me. But when i look in front of me, what would i see?

I bet a 66mhz could do some file sharing of some sort.

I've got a 333mhz on a 4GB drive doing my print and sharing of a 500gb drive. I'm actually pretty happy with it's performance. I started out questioning my effort but I'm glad now I did the work. I even turned off the CPU and all fans in the case so it's 100% quiet. It runs non-stop and so far no problems - not that I'd care if it died..... Probably cheap to run too.

I think I have a 33mhz Mac in my basement somewhere.... one of those black/white all-in-one boxy jobs.

Irrelevent in what sence? Since when is the thread demanding of relevence. If you ask a science question i will answer, ask any kind of question you like, someine will answer as this is the thread for all knowledge.
