Vista wont boot after overclocking

Hi there, thanks for looking...

I have an Asus p5vd2-x mobo, A Intel E6600 @2.4 and 2gb of ddr2 ram (667).

My machine is running good runs nice and cool.
But when i try overclocking, even changing the FSB by 5mhz and try booting to windows i get the whole "Windows has failed to start, a recent software or hardware change might have caused this" "winload.exe somthing somthing" "0XC000000e" "my name is windows vista and im going to be a bitch"

As you can see i would like to overclock and i can get 2.4 up to 2.8 with only 1 deg increace. I only change the fsb, i havnt done anything with the voltage, just the fsb.

Please help me, i cant find anywhere that doesnt get sidetracked and my question never gets answered.

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, you are probably stuck at stock speeds using that motherboard.
VIA's chipsets are very value orientated and are not designed to run any faster than their specifications.
If you want to overclock your current CPU, look into a new ASUS or Gigabyte P35, P43, or P45 based motherboard.

right, so i knew my mobo was *** all along (theres an epic story as to why i ended up with such a *** board...for another time maybe?)
So your saying that because of the chipset of this board its unable to overclock at all? I have been looking for a new board and would very much appreciate a good recommendation, a good reason, and hopefully a link or somthing that tells me how well other people went with this specific CPU...
So...If you have a overclocked Intell E6600 (2.4ghz) and have overclocked it past 3ghz please let me know what board you are using and what values you used to achieve what you got.. 😀

It's not. It just wasn't designed for overclocking.

So...If you have a overclocked Intell E6600 (2.4ghz) and have overclocked it past 3ghz please let me know what board you are using and what values you used to achieve what you got...

About 3 years ago, I got an E6600 up to 3.6 GHz using a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme (abbreviated to "TRUE") with a Scythe S-Flex fan in a hand-me-down case with pretty good cooling using an eVGA 680i motherboard.

Currently, I am using Gigabyte motherboards (P45 3P and 3L and a P35 3P). A GA-EP45-UD3L - about $90 - (or the equivalent Asus board) should suit you nicely.

You should be able to reach 3.3 GHz. fairly easily. Anything more depends on so many factors:
the CPU VID, choice of heatsink, and choice of case are the major factors.
