I got this monitor https://www.staples.com/lg-ultrawid...65c-b/product_24618129?cid=EM:ordconfrm::sku& and it advertises freesync. But, I still suffer a good amount of smearing and ghosting, which is crazy. I cannot enable VRR (I have a 6800 non-xt, with an i7 14700k), but I can enable that freesync. But, it doesn't help at all. Before, I used this monitor - https://www.bjs.com/product/acer-ni...ode=AFCJ25&utm_campaign=evergreen&dt=20240103 with the same GPU and it allows VRR, and it doesn't have any smearing or ghosting whatsoever. They both advertise the same Freesync, but only one seems to be able to use the VRR. With the first, I wasn't able to enable VRR in AMD Adrenalin edition driver, only Freesync, and the other way around for the second. I returned the first one, and returned to using the second, and the VRR still works flawlessly. I can't understand what the difference is. Help? Thanks in advance. This is not necessarily a 'help with a purchase' post, I mainly just want to understand.

Smearing and ghosting is dependent on true response time, it's not related to VRR/FreeSync. FreeSync improves smoothness/juddering between frames (and tearing if your frame rate is less than the monitor's max refresh rate).

Your new monitor has a VA panel which has a much slower true response time than other panel types, typically 20–30 ms depending on the color transition.

Can you recommend a better 1440p monitor that's 32 inches? (for around the same price as the sale)?
