Hey everyone i have always wanted to build a PC but never though i had the time.
I'm going to be having more time on my hands here shortly and im getting ready to build this Omen i had bought a couple years ago to get me by. I dont know much about PC's at all but i do work HVAC so i do trouble shoot mother boards etc and have a technical understanding. Right off the bat i listed the PC above, one review i read before buying was a lot of people added fans to the tower. My first question for you all then is how do i know what kind of fans fit? Do i need to buy a new cave for more fans or cut them in?
Also my internet sucks terribly and i have no choice but to wifi from my router. Its been like this my whole life but im working on getting boosters etc.

Im wondering what yall might upgrade first. Right now im downloading PubG cause i have been dying to try it, but back in the day when i would play Warzone on this pc it would crash almost every time. Green screen and i would have to hard re start. I do play LoL just fine, i played WoW on lower settings great and Final Fantasy online on lower settings great. But im done with console and going to be doing more CoD and Elden rings console style games too.

That's an HP case and it is only 6.5 inches wide according to your link.

That means you might run into proprietary case issues that would affect your upgrading possibilities.

I couldn't find any case fan info at your link. Measure your existing fans. Roughly 120 mm diameter; not quite 5 inches? How many mounts total?

I'd strongly consider a new case that would be wide enough to accept taller coolers. I have no idea of the max cooler height of your case, but at 6.5 inches wide it's likely to be fairly low. HP cases are not renowned for good airflow.

Ok ill check out the fans, it looks like theres no more spots in this case for another fan. If i were going to buy a whole new case would i have to make sure its compatible with the parts i would keep out of this tower?

EDIT : I measured them and it looks like theyre just under 3.5in so roughly 80mm i would guess. Also there might actually be two spots on the top of the case for fans. but i dont see anything on the board for more fan plug ins

Coming from that HP, likely none of the major parts are compatible with standard ATX parts.
Primarily, case, motherboard, PSU...all would need to be changed.

The RAM and drives, sure.

What country are you located, what is your monitor resolution and what is your budget?

Yes, you would.

Any new "ATX" case will likely accept some of your existing parts.....but.........

Your motherboard is likely an HP proprietary model. It is possible it will not mount properly in an ordinary ATX case.

I have no idea about the degree of weirdness associated with HP motherboards. HP has no interest at all in having you replace your motherboard. They want you to instead buy an entirely new PC. Another HP of course, with the same disadvantages.

Your power supply is also a possible issue due to HP proprietary issues. It may not be industry standard.

Your drives could certainly be reused. Your RAM likely. Your cooler maybe, but it is likely a weak point.

If you want a significant improvement in overall "horsepower", you'd have to move to a new motherboard regardless. Maybe you are satisfied with your horsepower?

You can start over for maybe 700 to 1000 bucks, keeping only Windows and your drives and maybe the RAM. Depends on your budget and how you deal with frustration and endless fiddling and experimenting.

hmm ok, my graphics card could likely be re used i think, maybe paired up with another one i have heard thats a popular thing but not sure. i would be glad if i could keep it around a 1000 for a decent upgrade. playing pubg with lowered settings was even a little laggy.

Yeah, graphics card and drives should certainly be transferable. RAM maybe.

Put together a list of acceptable components other than the CPU.......case, motherboard, cooler, power supply, 120 mm or 140 mm case fans, maybe RAM

Then spend the rest of the budget on the strongest current generation CPU you can afford....up to 12700 series if you can afford it. Or 12400 to 12600 if you can't.

Is this a build you did and saved or just something you threw together ? I want to make sure whatever i buy has room for upgrades down the road because i do want to get rid of console gaming entirely and dont want to get stuck in the same situation im in now with needing to upgrade almost everything. I mistakenly thought i could add to what i have but i want to increase the power by quiet a bit so here i am lol.

Cool.. im going to look into a bunch more things, the fella above you has a fairly nice list of parts i just spent some time looking them all up with reviews.. like i just mentioned to him i want to make sure theres room for expansion so im not stuck in this same spot when it comes to upgrade. I want to make sure theres going to be room. I think this is something im going to start soon.

It's a decent example of what can be done with 1000. You can certainly fiddle with it easily enough.

Half of that 1000 is a new 500 dollar graphics card.

An alternative would be to NOT get a new graphics card now.

Instead spend maybe 200 of that 500 on a more powerful CPU....a 12600 or 12700 series. 300 dollars staying in your pocket.

Then, later, upgrade the graphics card if unhappy...

Lots of ways to go.

The bigger the budget the more frames per second you get.

i7 version of that build I posted up above w/ 32GB of DDR4 3600 RAM. Just swap out the cpu + cooler + RAM with these.

And if you want more and faster storage then switch out the SSD in that build I posted with this one.

Hey, I'm going to be getting around to building a pc this winter. Is there anything you would change about either of the builds you linked above? Air flow is super important on my next build and RAM. Im trying to totally ditch the console and only game on pc so Call of duty, WoW, Elden ring etc

There is a new generation of Intel processors out in the last couple of months, with a few more to be released in January. CPU model numbers beginning with 13.

You'd pay maybe 50 to 100 more and get maybe 8 or 10 percent CPU performance boost for that money...compared to the equivalent 12th generation parts (12000 series CPUs).

A DDR 5 motherboard is always an option as well. More expensive than DDR 4...maybe 100 dollars more for 32 GB; half that for 16 GB. Gap will probably continue to narrow.

Intel is due to release their locked cpu's and B760 boards January 3rd. I would look at the i5 13400 / 13400F ($225 USD if I had to guess). You can expect a decent B760 DDR5 board for less than $200 USD.
