Hi all

Having only ever played DAD almost 15 years ago my nine year old has
discovered 40K.

After some research we have decided to try out warhammer in 40mins - really
to get a grip of the basic rules and principals before spending a fortune on
armies
3 patrols selected IG (he loves the soldier/military elements of IG),
Spacemarines (My choice) and necrons (he likes the terminator movies and
thought they looked similiar)

We intend with a few of his friends to start a 40min league

Few questions

Can I split 10 space marines into two indepenent units of 5 eg Sarge and 4
marines - leader and 4 marines and still have them share the same rhino
transport?

If one guy in a unit carries Krak or Frag Grenades do all troops in that
unit benefit from them?

I'd like the marines to be black templars - esay paint job but Amry builder
says I need a champion - can I dump this rule for 40mins?

Space Marine scouts look cool can I use these models instead of regular
marines but count them as regulars

Really the only question I need to ask is can you be a bit fuzzy with the
rules to 40min

No. Squads may not split in the current rules, nor can two squads share a
transport.

Nope, you may buy them for a character as wargear or for a squad as an
upgrade.

IIRC, yes, you can drop futzy rules like that in Combat Patrol.

In games in your own house, sure. Technically.... no. Since the represent
two different unit types, Scouts are not properly modeled with Power Armor,
which a picky opponent could complain about. If you really love the models,
I'd say run with them, just make sure to explain upfront to any opponents
what they are. Also, you probobly shouldn't use any actual scouts in your
lists, to avoid confusion.

You can be loose with Army composition requirements, i.e you only need one
Troops and no HQ, you don't need to take certain army requirments (one
platoon per armored fist, etc.)

are you kidding? You can be as fuzzy as you want, it's your game, your
stuff, your house, your kid. Use your imagination.

Good plan.

At least you know what's coming... ;)

Pretty good starting choices, tho you can leave the Necrons off for last.

Nope. Rules say a Transport can only carry one unit. But you can field
two minimum-sized units of 5 Marines, and give *one* of them the Rhino.

I don't take grenades. :)

Sure. Tho unless you specifically want to play as Black Templars, it's
probably easier to create your own Chapter with a similar and easier
paint scheme, say black with grey shoulder pads. :)

Sure, I suppose. But really, they're different and may confuse your
opponents.

For what you want to do, it would be easiest to play a "regular" Marine
force, with taking Scouts as Scouts, and so forth.

As you are running a "closed" league, if the rules are published before hand
they should be accepted by all.

Bear in mind the 40K/40Mins was designed to be run in a school lunch hour.
As above Your House Your rules...

Necrons are a real bad idea in 40k in 40mins. You've only got one troop
choice, and they're expensive points wise. So you either end up with 22
Warriors split into 2 squads, or 10-12 Warriors plus a small squad of
Immortals or Destroyers.

In 40k/40mins number of bodies really does count, and Necrons can't get
the numbers on the board.

Cheers, Martyn

Sure, just stop top-posting...

IG is easy: 1 Platoon (5+10+10); 1 AF Squad (10). This is 35 guys with
an IFV and enough points to give every unit a Heavy and/or Special
weapon. You buy a Cadian Battleforce, AF squad, and just save the Leman
Russ MBT for larger games.

I'll leave the SM for someone else.
