Brand new Optiplex small form factor.
Got the machine and needed to add my 1Tb M2 nvme which uses a Pci-e slot encapsulation. The machine booted to windows and did not recognize my added drive. Rebooted and entered the BIOS to find (IMHO Odd) Raid mode ON. Wondered, and did a little research. Most people were saying simply switch to AHCI and boot into safe mode and it will install the AHCI drivers. This worked perfectly. Device manager showed AHCI drivers for my storage devices. Rebooted and windows booted normally using AHCI. Shut down the computer and installed my PCI-e drive. Computer booted fine, found my drive and i started working. Installed some applications and needed to reboot. Computer hung at the dell slash screen. This is where things get interesting.
Shutting down the computer and removing the PCI-e drive, the computer then booted up normally. Figured i would check to see if i could duplicate this so i shut the machine down and reinstalled the Pci-e drive and the computer booted just fine. Recognized my drive and everything worked perfectly. Scratched my head and thought maybe a one time glitch. Installed more apps and eventually rebooted, hang at the dell splash screen. This is the pattern now. If i reboot my machine with the pci-e drive installed in the machine it will hang on the dell splash screen and not boot. If i then remove the drive and successfully boot into windows without it, i can then shut down reinstall the drive and all is good until i need to reboot.
This is some behaviour that has me stumped. I have verified this over 15 times easy trying to diagnose. Dell asked me to run diagnostics by using the F12 one time boot menu. Using the one time menu, selecting diagnostics brings me to the dell splash screen where it hangs again. I have verified that the bios changes have not been undone, when i enter the bios when the machine will hang it is still set to AHCI and the PCI bus shows my 1Tb m2 drive. I have posted on Dell community and i have a support ticket open with Dell awaiting call back.
I do not have a ton of confidence in the support i will receive so i figured i would ask here. Has anyone ever seen this behaviour?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
