What do you think of my new super gaming computer

Listen chips, if you are really serious about this and aren't a 12 year old loose in mommy's 5 year old PC then I apologize but you have to understand that my analogy about buying a 16 cylinder, 700HP diesel dump truck and then saying you have the fastest card on the road because it has more horsepower than a aFerrari is very appropriate. The quadro is not designed to do gaming, it is designed to do very heavy duty rendering.

Two different design philosophies behind the geforce and quadro cards. If you don't believe anyone here then simply write to Nvidia and ask the people who made the card. They will go out of their way to dissuade you from purchasing that card for gaming.

Other than name calling and childish remarks I don't see any real proof that geforce is better than quadro for gaming other than the cards are way more expensive. quadro fx-5500 cards sell on ebay for 1000 to 1200, the retail value is 2500, thats only what 400 more than 8800gtx and you get more ram. I have read in the past that quadro's play games with the doom 3 engine better does anyone have any benchmarks with the framerate.
Oh wow now you have me angry I paid for this not my parents!!! Unlike you people I don't live with my parents and on my own! You must find these boards fun to rip on people and remain immature jerks and don't grow up?

You're an idiot. You seem to be one of those schmucks that think that just because somethings more expensive, its better. Guess what, ITS NOT.

Quadros may play Doom3 games OK, because DOOM3 is openGL based, and so are the Quadros. SO, if you want to play just 2 or 3 games EVER, then you still will have an overpriced, hamstrung, crappy system.

You'd have been better off claiming that someone else was paying for it. Stupidity isn't as bad when its other people's money your spending.

For 2K, I could build a system that will blow you system away at EVERYTHING except CAD and rendering. How about you pay me the money you were going to spend on that PC, and I'll give you a PC thats better than you are planning on buying, and pocket the difference?

Oh wait, nevermind, there's never any point in reasoning with people like you.

Enjoy your money pit.

the Quadro FX 4500 should actually be slower than the Radeon X1900 XT on the Mac Pro
 😳
unless you really enjoy doom3 and quake 4, then I see no point to the quadro, according to the link you provided, the card is only good for those two games and to make it worse
If you plan on doing any GPU based rendering, then the 7300 GT is more than enough
that defeats the purpose of a quadro

\bump

The quadro's were better back then they will probably always be better on the good games

If you want us to coddle you and sooth you with nice words after you made two grand fuck ups, you are sorely mistaken, especially after you ignore both common sense and the benchmarks. The 8800 beats the x1900 series and the Fx by a considerable margin. Not a small one. Like GX2 vs 6600 margin. If you can't see what you did for what it is, (it being a fuck up, and a massive one at that) then I question your general sanity and if you are fit to have a computer.

If you can afford a Quadro Plex then why not just buy a super gaming pc. Not a workstation. That Quadro Plex is for people that makes games and 3d stuff. If you want a good gaming rig then do this.

Evga 680i SLI, A1 version
QX6700
4x1Gb DDR2 1066
2x8800GTX SLi
X-Fi Fatality
2x150Gb Raptor in raid 0
1000watts psu
and the rest

Run 64-bit Vista and you're good to go.

I wouldn't be able to afford a quadro plex. I bought it for 2,200 with the g-sync card and without the two fx-5500.

do me and yourself a favor, return the plex and the g-sync, I don't care if you have to lose $!00, you'll be happy in the long run, and go buy two "cheap" 8800gtxs, and I think you will be far more happy, get the water modded kind if the regular version is too "cheap" for you and build a nice custom water rig for the difference, and then we'll be talking about a real 1337 machine, also dump the 950 for a core 2 extreme

I don't think I will return it I like it too much. When I get the two fx-5600 cards to put in it it will only cost like 1/3 of the 18k.

you fool, I'm really trying to help you out, I would put two 8800gtxs in that quadro plex box, wasting $6k on something that is beaten by the 7600gt in most gaming applications

I am sure they will sell for 1500 or less in a few months on ebay

In all seriousness, why don't you go to any reputable High-End gaming rig web-site, and see what their top-end system is. I GUARANTEE none of them use Quadro cards. Actually, I would bet you won't find ANY cards with a Quadrio card.

quake 4 doom 3
Here are some benchmarks that proves the fx-4500 is better than the ati x1900 xt
So wait, the $2,115.14 card beats the sub $300 card by 4 frames per second, and you're calling it a great card? Doom3 is OpenGL, and that's the Quadro's specialty. Try playing F.E.A.R., Half-Life 2, or Oblivion on that thing and it'll look like power point. You're truly the greatest fool of all if you spent that much on a videocard that'll barely keep up with an X1900XT.

The point is to not have the Quadro. Seriously, its not for gaming. It can, but you'll be wasting your money. Why do you think high end gaming rigs don't use either FireGL or Quadro cards?

because if they purchase them new they cost 4 times as much as the geforce. When they sell on ebay they usually sell less.

I beat fear with my pentium 950 and fx-4500 in sli with all the setting at max on 800x600. It played nice at 1024x768 but slowed down with more enemies.

You are not going to get any buyers for a card that is useless to most of the population and in 6 months, people will be focused on the R600.

The best you could do with it was 800x600? That's got to be one of the funniest posts in this thread!

That isn't even high rez dude. If you want to play at low rez get yourself a wii or ps2. Try playing a game and 1280x1024 or even better 2560x1200

yes, and you can get two 8800gtxs for $1500 or less right now. I'm telling you, unless you are just going to do video rendering, don't get the quadros
Ever since I have been using the fx-4500 with sli I really think they are much better and worth the extra money than geforce

The video card settings were on maximum. If I had a better processor, maybe more ram I could do more resolution.

Hey genius, you just proved all of us right. It SLOWED DOWN at 1024x768? My $300 X1900 can play 1024x768 with NO slowdown. Keep them coming, this is getting entertaining.

In a way, I kinda hope you are one of those twisted people that gets a kick out of starting an idiotic thread just to argue with people.
