Hi all,

Recently i upgraded my graphics card from a 32mb geforce 2 to a 256mb
Radion 9600xt, unfortunatly the fog effects on Return to Castle
Wolfenstein which were rendered on my 32mb geforce 2 are no where to
be seen on my new card. Are the fog effects for nvidia users only?

Many thanks,

Deforce

What drivers are you using? Have you tried a newer Catalyst driver? There
are notes in the Catalyst readme's that suggest that some games have no fog
rendered, it's possible you have a driver that is doing this with the Quake
engine RtCW uses.

Try r_uifullscreen 0 in the console.

Thank you for your replies, i did some more research on this matter
and found that only Nvidia cards support fog, hence my new Ati card
will not

Where did you get that? The basic fog that the Quake 3 engine uses is easily
implemented on any recent graphics card.

If you were running on a GeForce 2 before, you probably had to tweak things
pretty heavily to get decent frame rate, so I'd suggest reverting to
defaults (delete all .cfg files from the the game directories, backing them
up somewhere first) and reintroduce your tweaks slowly.

I forgot the website, but it stated that you needed an nvidia card,
nevertheless in the single player menu it has 'nvidia fog' under the
system graphics option, hence it will not turn on with my new card.

My old Geforce 2 ran Wolfenstein flawlessly with quite a decent
framerate (no tweeking) at medium quality, though i admit i do miss
the atmospheric quality of the fog

I completely forgot I had RtCW installed on my work PC that has a Radeon
9200 (my home PCs all have nVidia cards). I've fired up MP, and fog works.
In SP I have the nVidia Distance Fog set to "no".

Just to show that the fog does work in MP, here are some pics:

Those were taken about 5 minutes ago on my work PC - Windows XP SP2, Radeon
9200, RtCW GOTY edition with 1.41 patch installed.

It's been a long time since I played SP - name me a good level to test the
fog on, and I'll fire it up and post some screenshots.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that the nVidia Distance Fog option is only there
because the game engine has a different way of generating fog on nVidia
cards than other cards, not because only nVidia cards will show fog in the
game.
