Hi all.

Hoping to find some wisdom in here! For the last 3 days I have been
installing loads of new Aircraft, Panels and Sound files. All has been
well up until this afternoon.

I have installed about 40 aircraft & textures, and a few panels and
sound files. The planes are all present, the panels are fine, the
sounds are fine, but there is a problem with any view from outside (or
even looking outside the aircraft through the windows).

Lots of smoke is belching out of the engines, and there is a lot of
orange sparkly things flying around the engines, the rear of the
aircraft, and just in front of it.

It does not matter which Jetliner I fly - this is present in all of
them. Obviously I have installed a file (is it an effect?) that all jet
aircraft call upon which I do not require. Everything was normal this
morning, so it has happened this afternoon.

Anyone got any ideas what it could possibly be?

Hoping you can help!!!!

yup certainly an effects file, maybe the install cd's list the default ones?
could separate the non defaults and figure out which one it is

If it is an "effect" (.fx) that is effecting all aircraft, then
it would be in your FS9 "effects" folder. What I would do is
create a temporary "save" folder withing the "effects" folder
and then start moving groups of fx files from the main folder
to the temporary folder. I'd start with a 50% move ( not copy )
in order to isolate which half of the folder the rogue file is
located in, then divide that half by 50% and keep going until
you have located the culprit.
This sounds tedious but it shouldn't take long to narrow the
choices down to a small number using this method.
I had to resort to this approach recently when a panel I
had d/l'd was producing a very annoying, loud, unstoppable
buzz. I found the culprit .wav file in no time and eliminated
it forthwith.

Thanks guys.

Shortly after I posted, I went to the FX folder and started removing
files 1 by 1 (checking against which date they had been accessed).
There were only 4 fx that had been accessed today. I moved them,
reloaded, and all was fine 🙂

Most oddly though, I put them all back in 1 by 1 until all 4 were back
in, and the dreadful fire / smoke thing never happened. Several quits &
restarts later, with various aircraft, and everything back in place, and
there are no problems. Must have been a temporary glitch. Don't
understand it myself, but put it down to experience ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, and glad to report that FS9.1 is happy
again!

Rob,
Go to your Flight Simulation Settings and turn off crash detection and all
will be well with the sparks and smoke. It is probably an effect that is
default in FS and you just have picked an aircraft that is off the ground a
bit and crashes on startup. If you pick a default flight with the Cessna
then you should not see this effect unless something else is messed up.
Visit us at www.simflite.com and join us if you live in the Southern
California area. We have a lot of fun and knowledge and many of our members
are real pilots active and retired.

OK, if ever it happens again, I'll try this.

Thanks for the invite, but I'm a long way from you.....cold wet and
windy Northern England!

Once again, thanks everyone.
