HP does not have a well built, well populated and well integrated applications repository and store.
HP does not have a multi-studio backed music and movies store.
HP does not have a widely populated books and magazines store.
Okay Tuan you freakin macboi. The slate is a windows PC hence you can install and play nearly ANYTHING you can find on the web. One thing I didn't see in the slide was mention of usb though you did admit it briefly. Slate is a PC, iPad is a giant iPod touch (without the camera)

[citation][nom]ruffhouseutah[/nom]When it comes to consumers, it's all about the interface and user experience.[/citation]
Uhm, Athlon 64s vs Pentium IV Prescott anyone? Which sold better?

Sadly, it actually comes to more effective marketing.

Here's my thoughts.
The HP Slate needs to have a longer battery life and remove that power adaptor for me to buy it. A week or more on standby, at least 10hrs of operation(1 week worth of 2hr usage). Dump that power adaptor! What's the use of a slim tablet only to lug a bulky adaptor when you travel? I want to charge it with just USB.

You still don't get it do you.

You seem completely lost on the very underlying concept of how these products came to be. You don't seem to have a very deep understanding of how these companies work. I've been in this industry working for 15 years, working directly with these companies day in and day out. To call me a "macboi" when this article was all about how HP can beat the iPad, just goes to show, you completely missed the whole point of the article. Completely.

Relying on Windows isn't enough. Relying on people to KNOW that they can get all of this without being tied down to Apple's stuff, is not enough. Apple HANDS deliver all of these things to the majority populus, and that's why it wins at the consumer level. Because most consumers, DON'T KNOW, or are LAZY.

The tablet battle is far bigger than any single one device. But you probably don't understand that do you? You probably think it's down to Windows vs. iPhone OS, specs, USB ports, and CPU speed, don't you? It probably frustrates you to think how is it possible that you might not get what I said in the article right? That's why you're mouthing off behind your wall of anonymity?

I don't think I'm going to even bother explaining the rest to you since you obviously have no respect.

Ciao.

/ Tuan

If apple was so great at delivering software, woundnt there be more Macs in the world? I get all you're saying, but surely I'm not in the minority thats excited about keyboardless nettop? Just because it doesnt have a keyboard doesnt mean I would like toy and not a real computer.

Unless most of the 90% of people currently using windows are glad to have a toy when they're on the go... might be... I'm not one of them.

With today's battery standards, what your looking for is a cell phone that can't make calls with a 9.7" screen, ie: iPad

Clearly you didn't read my next post... You come off as a macboi (and I know you're fan so don't get defensive) in the article. You didn't explain the "ease of use" points until the comments section (which is a pain in the ass to read these days). My second comment there concedes your point. Yes, most consumers are stupid and need things simplified for them. HP should take the opportunity to run their own app store but they'd make it even better if they didn't tie it to the hardware. Make it something like steam or impulse where it actually draws from the web, make the store web accessible too, make it an amazon competitor at the same time as the app store. Then you're talking. Now, back to your comments. Who actually reads all the comments (especially now that they've fukked the comment system) before posting their comment. You should have posted that pov in your article instead of having to justify it after the fact in the comments section. You really do come off as macboi in your article. Read it again. "Mouth off" ha, for calling you a macboi? I been reading articles and tips on Tom's since '99. I've been "in the biz" professionally for 14 years and I think I know the markets just as well as you and I've earned my right to have an opinion.

I'm concern with something though..will this HP slate runs hot? I mean, its on Windows 7, and at least a dedicated card. And Intel atom on windows 7? won't it be slow? I'm not sure but i hope HP makes it right.

I guess if my wish on battery/power is not coming true. The HP Slate will have the netbook as its competitor(>8hr battery life with its ugly bulky power adaptor). The over-priced, propietry but cool Ipad will have no competition in this aspect.

I don't think that the Tom's Hardware readership is really capable of understanding the IPAD's purpose, I know I certainly don't get it. I suppose Grandmas, Girlfriends, Managers, CEO's, (insert generic stereotype for the technically challenged)who are generally just not capable of comprehending a normal computer get it, and for those of us who are technically capable, we just can't wrap our heads around it. What's the point of a device that doesn't let you do whatever YOU want to do? A device where someone else decides what applications you can run and how many you can run at once? An overpriced, underpowered, arbitrarily limited window that only looks out upon Jobsonian approved content? Nope, I don't get it at all. Now an Android/Chrome tablet, or maybe the MS courier, those interest me, but I don't even have a laptop so what the hell would I do with them?
