Right now i am running a ASUS p5a and would like to upgrade my system to new MB. I would like to know what is a good board to overclock and chip to go with it. Intel or AMD cpu?
Ok say i do go with the abit KT7a, can you run a AMD-K7 Athlon 700MHZ and overclock it to 1GHZ?

I hear eveybody talking about cooling. What kind of cooling are you using to keep the cpu cool? I wonder if anybody thought about putting a whole computer in a home freezer? Is there such a thing getting it to cold? Or colder is better? That would keep it cool. I have only overclock one or two motherboards and i thought i had a good fan for my cpu. Anybody have good sugguest on what type of fan to use? Or any other means to keep the computer cool. Thanks

depends on people's tastes.. try getting an asus or abit.
I'd get the Abit KT7a ... which is an AMD board.

1 gig may be a bit optimistic, but you should be able to get another 150-250MHz with the TBird. The Abit board is totally awesome. My friend got his duron 750 up to 960 on the KT7 RAID. Some CPUs are better than others. Its luck of the draw. You may get a 700 that runs stable at 1gig, but thenagain you may only get 850 out of it.

I have the Adit KT7 and a TB800@1000 I'm betting that I could get more out of it -IF- I could put the Voltage up past 1.85, but that is where the board stops (with out modification). Good luck with the 700... an extra 300 would be a feat... Be sure you have some really good cooling on that bad boy.

Juice: If you want to check out the KT7A Raid board on the web go to the ABIT website and look up the motherboard products. THere are several excellent reviews of this board. I was so impressed I bougth one myself. But you can look at the info and decide for yourself.

from what I see the slot athlons are more expensive and a Duron might be better cosidering it would be much cheaper.

Intel or AMD...Hmmm... That depends, would you rather give money to the Blue Man group or keep the money yourself?
I say go with the Iwill KK266. It works nice, and gets a little bit higher benchmarks than the Asus. You might be able to get a gig, I think a copper chip might help. But you can't do it with a regular Athlon, you need a thunderbird. If you've got enough cooling and the right chip and hsf, you can probably make the gig. But, it might be worth buying the Athlon thunderbird 750, cuz it actually costs less than the 700. You've got a better chance with the 750 to make it. Have Fun.

Also, if your thinking of those High overclocking, cooling is an important factor!
Get a good cooling fan/heatsink
And its a good idea to modify your tower with some fans there too..

I'm waiting for a T/Bird 850,Abit KT7A and a Taisol H/s to be delivered.I was trapped between the Asus A7V and the Abit and after reading the reviews I decided to go with the Abit

Just a comment on the cooling too much.

If you take the temperature down too much (like in a freezer) you would freeze all the water in the air causing all the electronics to short, so keep the temp at 1C or above; or keep your computer in a freezer full of an inert gas. (30-40C is normal for an Athlon in idle mode)
