HI guys,

thanks for the help the last few weeks.

I have officially given up on my asus p5k-se board and will be changing it for a gigabyte p35-ds3l that so many people are having success overclocking the e2160 with.

I will also be changing my ddr667 for ddr800.

ok so my questions are as follows. If i know that most people are able to get 3.0-3.2 ghz on this chip.

what settings should i set at to start with higher than needed voltages and then just back down. i do not want to go higher than 3.2

I was thinking on going 8*400 1.575 vcore
2.1 ram voltage

ram set at ddr2-800

should i up the nb voltage right of way?

thanks for the help

I've had mixed luck with 400x8, 2.0 spd (800 for ddr2), 1.4vcore, +0.1 fsb, no change on nb (mch), 2.2 (+0.4) ram. Auto timings on RAM.

I'm still verifying the stability but it looks like it might be a success. I've had a weird rebooting issue, and I won't know if that is fixed until after this weekend (really long small fft Prime95 test).

If that doesn't work, I'm going to back down to 333x9, 2.4 spd (800 ddr2), stock voltages. We'll see where it all ends up.

It ran Prime95 stable for 8 hours on stock. The E2160 has some great potential.

Keep in mind, results with this chip vary greatly. I've seen results over 400fsb, and some people who struggle to get past 333. Your most stable OC would probably be 333x9, because that's what the motherboard is rated at, but most agree that you can move past it. Just be patient.

HI Again all,

I have reviewed and reviewed the cpu c2d overclocking guide. and feel comfortable to know what I can do.

However, No matter what I do, I cannot get the pc to boot at 333 fsb. Even with voltage at 1.55.

I made sure ram would be at ddr2667 with no extra voltage as it is kingston value ram.

i disables everything the guide said, even cpu spread spectrum, but i have two other settings that im not sure what should be at, I have pcie spread spectrum also. should this be off?
i have set pcie to 100.
I also have this setting just above fsb, it is fsb to northbridge strap, i can set it to 200-266-333-auto,

the highest overclock i could get was with it at 266, fsb 290 which gives me 2.6 cpu at 9 times multiplier, with 1.475vcore. and 1.9 ram as its at 725. which is lowest i can set it at with these setting.

Is it possible the board wont post at 333fsb?

ill i want is the 3.0 and not more...any suggestions?

Hmm....

I'm guessing you're still with the P5K, since I don't recognize the FSB to Northbridge strap from the DS3L.

From what I've read, leave it auto. It apparently helps set up your memory multipliers. Don't change it.

Hmm...what are your other voltages? I realize hardware differs, but I am having a much greater success at lower voltages...

Turn off the PCIW Spread Spectrum. Google it, and you'll find out more info.

Check out the this guide. It has P5K specific settings.

Also, if that doesn't help, let us know what all of your settings are, so we can make some more recommendations.

If it helps any, I have two of these chips in two quite different motherboards. The one in my ASUS P5E3 Deluxe I've managed to overclock to 3.3Ghz on air and the one in my Abit F-i90HD motherboard will no go past 2.9Ghz. I'm yet to swap them round and test to see if it's the chip that holds the second on back or the motherboard. I suspect it's the motherboard.
