[SOLVED] What makes the gaming performance of my computer worse than that of similar systems on youtube?

Hi everyone.

I have recently upgraded my pc with a B450M motherboard and 3200G with the intention to use it for playing fortnite. Now when I play fortnite I get fps around the 40s when I'd expected to be running around 80s on 1280x720 low such as this system here,

Ryzen 3 3200G
Vega 8 Apu
Gigabyte AB350-DS3H V2
2x8GB DDR4 2933 Mhz
SSD 120GB
Windows 10

My specs are:
Ryzen 3 3200G
Vega 8 Apu
ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0
1X8GB DDR4 2666Mhz
HDD 930GB (This is my only storage)
Windows 10

Now I see that FPS Test has an extra stick of 8gb RAM which also has a faster clock speed but do you think that would make a difference in FPS as stated above? If not then can you give me some suggestions which may be making my Fortnite run slower than the average? (And if it is I'll be getting that extra stick pronto!)

1 stick of RAM = single channel operation = 1/2 the memory bandwidth. Your memory is also a little bit slower which doesn't help.

Assuming the fps test shown on youtube is to be believed accurate, are you saying another stick of ram will get me closer to the frames shown in the video, maybe even making up the whole 40fps difference?

You might not hit the exact same numbers, but Ram in dual channel should improve your fps quite a bit. Especially becauae your system and your igpu use the bandwith.

I can't say whether it would make up the full difference or not (their RAM was a little faster too) but single-channel memory setups have been shown to impact frame rates significantly when used with integrated graphics, in many cases cutting them in half, so you would really want to use two identical sticks of RAM with such a setup.

Of course you need more memory, and also you should get an SSD.

With your system starved for memory, it needs to swap DRAM pages to HDD and back WAY too much. So you have a memory starved system that is throttled by a mechanical HDD.

Seems to be a very common mistake people make -- they go for latest/greatest CPU/Mobo and then cheap-out on DRAM and Disk...
