I also have the V6000 series and yes it does need a memory upgrade, after 2 hours research I came up with two answers.

1-2GB upgrade:
1.) KTH-ZD8000B/1G - 1GB 667MHz Module by Kingston Lifetime warranty in most countries. This is stated by compaq to be completely compatible.

2-4GB upgrade:
2.) KTH-ZD8000B/2G - 2GB 667MHz Module by Kingston Lifetime warranty in most countries. At the time 2GB may not have been made but some say the chipset can handle up to 4GB of memory. Not known for sure

Today I am sending an email to suppliers to for the best price on the 2GB if I can find one pretty cheap and it works I will buy 3 more (friends computer) to insert 2GB x 2 = 4GB of memory.

I will be happy to post on here how it all goes.

I have Windows XP Pro installed as it came with it already.

Did either of your upgrades work? If so, my memory issue with my compaq presario v6000 is below. I used Nanya instead of Kingston RAM, but it is compatible as per same specs above and from HP's site. Can you help? .....

I purchased 2x1GB Nanya DDR2 SoDimm 200pin PC2-5300 667mhz CL5 Nanya NT1GT64U8HB0BN-3C sticks of RAM online and installed them. Happily it shows up in my System Properties in the General tab (running XP), however, it is showing a big question mark in the Device Manager. When my laptop boots up, it says it recognizes the new hardware, but consistency asks on start-up for installation of associated software. It's still running at the same speed so I'm assuming it needs drivers? Unfortunately, I can't locate the drivers anywhere. I have a call into Nanya, but that could take forever and I'm against the clock as I need to solve this or return the RAM and pay a professional to do this upgrade. Kindly help.
