I'm looking to upgrade my mobo and possibly my CPU and RAM will follow suit. Can anyone help with suggestions and point me in the right direction as I am not sure of compatibility and performance? I play games like R6 Siege, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldurs Gate 3, Path of Exile, and emulations too.
  • Motherboard: Asus h310m-d r2.0
  • CPU i5 9400F
  • RAM hynix 16 gb 2133
  • GPU nvidia 2070
Thank you in advance!

For what purpose?
What is wrong with your current build?
What do you want to achieve with the upgrade?
Oh sorry, I should've mentioned that.
First, I am looking to get better frames on newer AAA games. I'm also starting to some 3D animation and game dev and record and possibly stream that.
I don't have much workspace and don't need fancy RGB setups, just a capable machine that can do heavier load.

Is your case incapable of housing a full ATX motherboard?

Wondering why you say "mATX unit". Personal preference or forced by case limitations?

Nothing wrong with mATX boards, I use one myself. But many cases can accept either full ATX or mATX.

Yes, case limitation. Keytech Darthvader matx case. I got it all as a bundle, and it was just what I needed at the time.
Should I just get an ATX case so I can get an ATX motherboard? If so, I'm open to some suggestions and feedback on my case.

Changing your motherboard, by itself, will do nothing for you.
Your motherboard will support a cpu upgrade as good as a i9-9900K.
Not that I like such an upgrade.

Here is the list of possible upgrades:

Some games are cpu limited.
Try this test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

Emulators tend to be single threaded

ATX motherboards have 7 expansion slots. MATX will have 4.
How many do you plan to use?
For most it will be exactly one for the graphics card.

Do you have a budget?
