Hello guys,

I was thinking it's time for a partial upgrade. What would you suggest to upgrade first and which components are still in shape?

Main use is for gaming at Full HD

Current setup:
- MSI B150 Gaming M3
- Core i5-6500 3.20 GHz
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB
- 16 GB RAM DDR5 (2 x 8) Corsair
- SSD 240 GB
- HDD 500 GB

Thanks for answering

Solution
You are right, my mistake
Corsair Vengeance DDR4
2133 MHz
2 x 8 GB
I’d say your best upgrade is the cpu and motherboard to Ryzen, a good B450 and an R5 2600 or 3600. You really want RAM of 3000-3600mhz speed but I don’t think that’s in budget. You can reuse your RAM but there is a performance cost.

Thanks a lot for your answers. This community is really top.

What if I stayed with Intel, so I try to avoid the MB change. You see that as a possibility? If so, what would be the choice.

Used i7-6700k/7700/7700k. And a decent cooler if you don't already have one. You won't be able to take advantage of the overclock abilities, but the i7's higher turbos, combined with 8 threads, will open up the fps in many games.

After that, there's nothing to really touch until ready to upgrade all the core components. Cpu/mobo/ram

That would be kind of a poor value option though. A used 7700K is typically around $300 on eBay, a used 7700 around $250, and a used 6700K over $200, plus the cost of a cooler. And you'll still be on an older platform with no further upgrade options, just to get performance on par with this year's $100-$150 processors. For that kind of money, you could get a brand new CPU and motherboard, which in addition to being new hardware, would also leave room for future processor upgrades.

Thanks for the advice but I'd rather not go for used parts. Mainly because there is a poor market in my city for that.

Agree 100%
I'll keep saving for a couple of months and then make a good upgrade
