Question What to upgrade?

Hello!
I just wanted to point out that I am a complete noob at building a pc's and technology.

My current pc specs are:
CPU: intel i5 4460
GPU: Nvidia gtx 970
MO-BO:gigabyte b85m-d3h-a LGA 1150
RAM: DDR3 2x4GB 1600mhz Crucial ballistix
HDD: WD Blue 1TB

And now my problem comes.
What to upgrade especially for gaming quality. I mostly play Fortnite and CS:GO but i sometimes play newer games.

I also would love to buy a 144hz monitor but i dont have stable 144 fps in fortnite.

So what should i upgrade in order and when to buy 144hz monitor
[my money budget is about 500$ as of now, but i just want to know for what parts i should look for and upgrade them]

As of now you have a balanced system, your I5 may be able to handle GTX1660Ti but other than that you may want to do a total overhaul. Your $500 will get you a new platform CPU/board/ram and a SSD. Selling the used parts may give you enough for a stronger GPU as well.

So what should I buy first in your opinion? Save some money for gpu or buy CPU etc. already?

It is really up to you, Ryzen 3000series are coming soon (mid year is the prediction) so maybe go with a GTX1660Ti and the monitor and then look at platform later on.
