Im finding it somewhat difficult understanding exactly what upgrades my motherboard can handle. Specifically I am wanting to upgrade my GPU and CPU for gaming purposes. Putting that into $ context, I am fine with spending $300 - $400 for both GPU and CPU combined. Let me know if there are other specs I have left out from the below system information if need be.

System Setup:
Alienware
Aurora R4

Motherboard:
Alienware
0FPV4P
A00

CPU:
Intel Core i7-4820K CPU @ 3.70GHz

GPU:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

Ram:
24GB

correction. you can upgrade either the GPU, or the CPU, motherboard and RAM.
the trinity as I call it need to be replace in a group in your case, unless you want to settle for a slight CPU improvement, that is near the top of the heap forcing the mobo and RAM upgrade.
I would suggest a GPU.

for the general idea only, the gist
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4960X-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4820K/1977vs1675
266 for 11%, that is exactly my point. an AMD 1600 will outperform that CPU at a fraction of the cost
again for the general Idea

get on a new platform, that is a dead socket at your already near the apex.

for your consideration
both for 400 if you do not mind the odd rebate or two.
