If i wanted to cover my pc with something in order to prevent dust from getting in, while the pc is not in use or even if i needed to keep it in storage for a long time, what would be an okay material to do so? With my previous PC, that still works to this day, i simply has been using a plastic bag for years, but recently read that such practice may be dangerous to static.

Use of a plastic bag is fine. Just discharge static before touching system.

I suppose you could also use a cloth or paper covering.
And I suggest unplugging from electrical outlet as there is still power on the motherboard with power switch off. It probably wouldn't generate much heat, but just to be safe, I'd unplug it.
