I am a newbie to the overclocking realm and want to make 3dstudio max fly. I have checked around and am thinking about parting this system out and wonder what u guys think and would change. ABIT VP6-mb, dual PIII 933s w/256k cache, oxygen GVX-1 video card, 256 mbs of mushkin rev3 RAM guaranteed to hit 150mhz, 2 quantum fireball 20 gig hds on RAID striping, Globalwin FOP32-1 heatsinks&fans, Inwin Q500 case w/300watt power supply and plenty of case fans. What do you guys think and what would u guys change? btw-how hot is too hot when a PIII cpu is concerned?

Actually I just did some benches with hd tach on my Quantum Fireball AS and it just slightly edges out the IBM drives in terms of read speed. The Quantum drives are slightly noisier, but are also cheaper.

Why do I even try?

go for 512MB RAM for MAX and dont go for the Oxygen it is no where near worth it. If you want to be an overclocker get a GeForce2 Ultra. It works excellent for the price compared to any of the Oxygen boards and if you can muster up the guts the GeForce2 can be converted to a Quadro2 and save ya about a thousand bucks. The Q500 is great, good thermals and plenty of room. If you're going Mushkin go for the REV 2. The REV3 is the same as REV2 just that the 256MB REV2's are stripped of 128MB (somehow it gives it a slight performance gain). Besides you'll need the dimm slots for 512MB. And 300W sounds a little weak it shouldn't be too much to go to 400W with an Antec. I personally like the swiftech's over the globalwin's but it really isn't that important. GL
