What's a better/faster CPU T9900 or Q9000????

I want a fast processor so I have a choice between a quad core Q9000 running at 2GHz and a dual core T9900 3.06GHz, both have same fsb freqency and cetch size,,,what cpu whould be fastest?? Please help

I was told to add the core frequencies together to get the total the processing speed,so what's your formula to figure total CPU speed??? Thanks

No, you don't just add the core frequencies. The correct answer in this case is that the dual will be faster in some cases, and the quad will be faster in others. The quad will win in any highly threaded workload, such as rendering, encoding, and many types of simulations. The dual will win on most more normal desktop tasks however, including gaming.

I asked cuz I own a HP HDX18 notbook with a Q9000 CPU and I want to upgrade to the T9900 CPU and yeah I am a vivd gamer so this info was important,by the way I run crysis at high settings with the Q9000 cpu and not a prob

That's a heck of an expensive upgrade, honestly. If you're happy with the current performance, there's no reason to change.

True but a faster CPU could make a diffence in a case that a greater graphically enhanced game emerges so my notebook deserves the $450 CPU upgrade,iv just upgraded my HD's to high speed SSD's and I see quicker load time,longer batt life and overall better proformace,they cost me $600 each and I must say I get my $1200 back every time I use my notebook

What GPU do you have though? That's likely to make more of a difference than the CPU is. As for the SSDs, why $1200? You can get a good SSD for $200 these days, so $1200 seems really high for a consumer laptop.

True but my my hp notebook has 2x 250GB SSD's with read400 and write300. If you want SSD's with these specs you will have to pay a high price. The HP HDX18 is the only rival to ALIENWARE'S highend notbooks so I had to put in the best hardware

My hp uses the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M injection with the CPU so the gpu is only a part Factor of my performance

130M? Ouch. Your CPU won't be bottlenecking that much at all. That's actually a fairly mediocre card for what otherwise sounds to be a near top end notebook. I doubt you would see any gaming improvement whatsoever with the CPU swap, since the graphics card is what will be limiting your performance anyways.

I'd like to upgrade my gpu to the GTX 280M but my notebook has a mxm 2 slot and GTX 280M is a mxm 3 card,,do you think their is a way to make this card fit?

Not likely. Honestly, with the amount of cash you've spent/are planning on spending, you'd probably be better off with a mid spec laptop (maybe $1000 or so) plus a gaming desktop. The desktop will be far more upgradable than any laptop on the market, and the performance will be far higher for the price as well.

I upgraded the GPU and Ram on a Dell XPS 1530 not too long ago and even though it was very much needed, I feel like I got ripped off........

Wow that is awesome stuff! I would love to do that to my laptop and the items would perform better with a 280m or my 9800GTX.
