[SOLVED] Whats a good CPU to get for my Rig thats not gonna break the bank?

My specs are

Intel I5-4690k
gtx 1060 6GB
8GB ram (Upgrading to 16GB aaswell)

im looking to upgrade my pc a little bit and i wanna invest into a better cpu, I wanna play more modern games and older games better, any ideas what cpu i can get that is good and better than the one i got now that wont break my bank?

im not 100% sure what the mother board exactly is but i do know its a asus one and im looking to upgrade the cpu only

Your only real option on the smae mainboard is an i7 (4790/4790K?) of the same era from 4 years ago...(look on your mainboard's CPU support list to be sure)

Given their cost, I'd save up instead for a CPU/mainboard/DDR4 upgrade...

The B450/R5-3600 Ryzen combo is quite popular these days...folks on a more limited budget can even look at the R3-3300X (~80 less than the R5-3600), which, despite it's 4c/8t design, does amazingly well in current games tested, offering about 90-95% of the R5-3600's frame rates...
