417.71 drivers currently.

Don't remember it, was a awhile back for me, I got the game when it 1st came out, preordered it.

Is that the only driver you played it on? If so, maybe there's hope I will get better performance on it too.

BTW, I did some fact checking to back up what I said about the engine, and pretty much found what I expected.

The game is built on the Foundation Engine, which dates back to Temple of Osiris. The same Foundation engine was used for Rise of the Tomb Raider, but it was "dramatically enhanced" for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However it is said that the devs "pushed to its limit during game development", which verifies what I was saying that they put a lot of stress on it.

Foundation was not made from scratch either, as engines for modern games should be. It's based on the Crystal Engine, which had been used dating way back to Legend in '06.

"Which engine is the team using?

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is built using the Foundation engine as a basis. This is the same engine as Rise of the Tomb Raider, but it was dramatically enhanced by the Eidos Montreal R&D department, and pushed to its limit during game development."

Far Cry 5 is $15 at the moment. Just grabbed it. Also ordered an EVGA RTX 2070 XC that should be here tomorrow. Should be a nice bump from my old 980 Ti.

No it's not the only one.

Go back 4 months, I used every driver going back at least that far. Had my GTX 1080Ti FTW3 since August 2018 and the GTX 1080 FTW2 Since July 2017.

Yes I still run both, I have 2 gaming machines.

Since I play FC5 too I have to keep the drivers up to date all the time.

Oh yeah, it will be fore sure. :D

Enjoy FC5, I like it a lot.

I was afraid of that when you said you had the game for some time. I guess it won't likely do any good then. Guess I'll keep playing AC Origins with the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC I just got then.

Quite honestly I still feel the hitching is engine related given the facts about it I just confirmed. Even the AAA game devs are getting really lazy anymore at providing capable engines for their games. Especially when they get to the last installment of a trilogy and stress it to it's limits.

SOTTR has been pretty smooth for me, including the DLC's.

Had some lagging, but that was the very OLD KB and wireless mouse that I was using before though. It was obvious what it was.

Updated the KB and mouse on BOTH gaming systems, mechanical gaming KB's and gaming mice on both.

The old KB's were like 14 years old, both were PS2 KB's and not mechanical.

"Pretty smooth" is relevant to what one is used to. Again, it's not mere lag that the common complaints about performance are related to, it's hitching that occurs in specific places. It's also not typically lag that is caused by wireless control peripherals, it's specifically input lag, which is not at all the same as frame rate lag. It has more to do with device latency than game lag.

Again, I can't take the no hitching claims seriously unless I see proof of it, and I already mentioned the specific spot where a mere 10 sec vid that takes all of 5 min to capture and upload would confirm one way or the other. Mere hearsay is not proof to me. It's perfectly fine if you don't want to, I'm just saying it's pointless to reiterate it when it's not proof, especially when you call input lag, lag, which isn't the correct or detailed way of saying it.

It is when you move the mouse around and nothing happens then all of a sudden something happens.

Also when a key is pressed and there are issues

It "is" what exactly? It's in fact nothing more than the pains of wireless devices responding slower than wired ones. They're even subject to interference, which can cause an entire lack of response at times. It has zero to do with game performance lag due to a poorly coded game that lacks proper optimization, overworked engine, or the player having too low hardware spec.

Yeah and it causes lag in response.

My own fault though for using an old KB for 14 years and a Wireless mouse for gaming.

The KB on the other machine was even older than the 1st one. LOL

Just finally got around to replacing all my KB's for all 3 machines, all are very old.

And mice too.

It was all things I really didn't notice until I started doing time trials etc and any sort of mistake really matters.

Called input lag like I said. Best to say it that way so people know what kind of lag you're referring to. ;)

I should also mention, though it's common knowledge to most avid gamers these days, the type of display you use also affects input lag. It's usually the case that TVs have more input lag than monitors due to the video processing they use, but most TVs have Game mode now which greatly reduces the lag. Some TVs now have sub 15ms input lag, which is very good.

These are pretty good sites to find input lag measurements on monitors and TVs.

just started Everspace. is an awesome change from the fps & rpg genres i have been concentrating mostly on lately. game is lots of fun.

was pissed off recently; reinstalled Witcher 3 and upon load found that over the last year+ i have somehow lost my previous saves. plan was to start a New Game++. still have my old Witcher saves stored away so ended up just started a regular New Game and loading the Witcher 2 saves.
really has been fun though running through all the original gear and character leveling again.
anyone who hasn't played yet, currently only 14.99 on Steam.

Infinite is a game that would have benefited from not being a Bioshock game IMO. The mechanics and tropes of Bioshock were a bit at odds with the world, Vigors just felt like something they had to include to replace Raptures Plasmids. The original Bioshock was all about how the Plasmids (combined with the ideology) destroyed Rapture, while Columbia seems unaffected by plasmid/vigors.
The ending is also a really good mind-bender, though in retrospect I would have preferred if "Bioshock" was just a theme of ideological cities than the techno-magic that places Columbia and Rapture in the same universe(ish).
A lot of people focus too much on Plasmids and Vigors when playing Bioshock IMO. The thing I liked about Infinite is we finally got a good sized game world with indoor and outdoor environments, instead of just retracing steps back and forth through indoor ones. It also has lots of nice ways to navigate through it, resulting in multiple ways to take on enemies. The end battle was also significantly better than the first two games as well, and used the environment and ways to use it well.

I have definitely been enjoying Apex Legends the past few days, but as an Origin Premier access member I just got Anthem yesterday and it is SO fun, so far. I think my favorite part has got to be flying around :p

I got Battlefield V on eBay for $19 (someone's Nvidia RTX code). With my RTX 2070 I chose Anthem over Battlefield V but it was a hard choice at the time...so getting BFV for $19 was a steal. Pretty fun game, I have only tried the Grand Operations mode in MP but it is epic. Narvik is by far my favorite scenario so far. Still playing Overwatch, and will start playing Anthem tomorrow. Upgraded my R6S Starter to Complete and have been having a blast with that. I got Black Ops 4 for free with my i5-9600K and that's okay.. I am really bad at the Blackout mode so far. I have like 13 kills and 22 deaths across various matches in Duos and Quads. TOTAL.. lol.

Now I'm wondering if Apex Legends is worth downloading. I am obsessive compulsive and don't generally like F2P games listed on my account for any DRM... though some on Steam I have had no choice such as games that became F2P after I paid initially when they were not F2P games.. I know I'm weird.

Bought Far Cry 5 during Steam's LNY sale for $15 but really haven't gotten around to playing much aside from the opening 1-2 hours.

Have you given Warframe a try?

I'm a long time Warframe player (not constant, but stil) and all the things I see and people like in Anthem have been a part of Warframe since a LOOOOOOONG time ago already.

Cheers!

For some reason, I am still addicted to Overwatch...

But I also play APEX Legends, CS:GO and BFV...

For "classic" games I play Little big adventure (1&2) and Crash Bandicoot.

APEX Worth the download, trust me. It is the only battle royale game that currently like.

I started playing RE2 Remake a week or so ago, and just started Metro Exodus last night.

RE2 Remake is pretty good. I never played the original so it's all new to me. I do however prefer RE4's much better variety on levels and creatures. It also had a completely separate Ada mission, vs a slightly different Claire mission. So far I've beaten it on Normal via a Leon 1st run and Claire 2nd run. I'm doing the same order on Hardcore now and am just about done with the Police station. Last run I never managed to get Leon's Lightning Hawk Magnum, so I'm definitely going for it this time. For some reason getting the SMG for Claire seemed a lot easier.

There's something about old style zombie shooters that are made well that keeps you both panicking and laughing. I've used the door trick a lot in RE2 when there's a zombie or 2 facing my direction in a hallway. I get close enough for them to follow me, then duck through a door. Most of the time they will end up being faced the other direction if the room you ducked into is an area they won't enter into. Otherwise you risk them bashing the door open. When they're faced the other way I wait until I'm very close then run past them. It's sorta risky when they are staggered a little ways apart because you never know if the 2nd one will turn around in time to grab you. Plus they're capable of taking 4 steps or so pretty fast when they're chasing after you. There's times for no reason they'll position themselves facing a wall. These ones I leave alone and just walk quietly past. Sometimes I imagine them saying. "So you're just going to ignore me?", in zombie gargle. I then imagine my response to be something like, "Hey dude, you walked over there and faced the wall on your own, I'm not going to come up and ask you why just to have you grab me and waste more of my ammo".

Metro Exodus can be interesting, frustrating, exciting, but unfortunately also boring and almost uneventful. I'm through about 3 chapters so far and it feels a lot like one big cutscene much of the time. I like that you can craft at benches and even some consumables in the field, but I also miss the older style of showing the actual objects you're scavenging, vs categorized cartoon prompt images of them onscreen. It's too soon to tell whether I'll like Exodus or not, but I can't help but feel the first few chapters could have been better.
