Because there is a bit of Witcher talk going on here and I loooove seeing active discussions, I'd like to drop a little message here: next week's Steam giveaway will be two copies of The Witcher 3. Keep this to yourselves though, as it's not public knowledge yet 😉

Very cool. We'll keep that knowledge very quiet, very quiet indeed.

Shhhh everyone, we're hunting wascally Witchers!

Just remembered this again too.

That awesome Cyberpunk world combined with one of the best music scores in gaming history made me love The Human Revolution. This looks like a worthy successor. December 31st release date.

I remember that now that you said it. Some of the Mass Effect 2 and 3 soundtracks are just as good in their own way but I can't think of too many other game soundtracks that I can listen to as music. TES games have great music in game but I'm not listening to it while driving.

I never got around to finishing Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game! But my old HDD failed before I could finish it. I think I was just about to face the third boss in that game. I frigging loved the stealth element. I felt amazed by how you could pass each level without having to kill a single enemy.
But now, I'm gonna have to restart from the beginning, which kinda sucks, because I put in a lot of time into my first playthrough.
And the story is downright one of the best ever, IMO. No other game gripped me with story as much as this one did.

I played Deus Ex HR and the DLC through twice and the bought the Director's Cut and played it twice again. The Director's Cut integrated the DLC into the story and changes a few other things like the boss battles. It's well worth picking up if it's cheap and with the Steam Summer sale starting in a few days it will probably be on sale.

Truly I had a hard time picking between that game and Skyrim for my favorite game of 2011. Even though it's a linear game the different ways you can playthrough make replays fun. And that awesome music and visuals. Talking about it earlier made me go buy the soundtrack on Amazon lol. I don't know why I hadn't done it years ago.

Oh and just as an FYI to anyone wondering why it hasn't started yet, rumors have the Steam Summer sale running from June 11 - 22. It usually starts at the end of May so they are running a bit late this year.

Games I want to pick up:

South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

This War of Mine

I'm sure there will be others as well but those are what come to mind right now.

Mmm yes, This War of Mine was very impressive. Will definitely be on sale, most indie games are.
😉

Skyrim is my favorite game of all time. Add mods and no game to this point holds a candle to it, even graphically. Makes new releases like Witcher 3 disappointing, because my modded Skyrim looks way better (K Pure Light ENB).

For those of you playing Witcher on a Kb/m, you should give a game pad a try. I have moved to strictly playing PC games but use an old Xbox controller when the game is setup for a game pad. It works well and is nice to lean back.

Just finished Knights of the old republic II, the game made me fall back in love with the Star Wars world after being disgruntled with films 1-3.

Pretty much any recent 3rd person game I play with a controller, much smoother experience in AC: Black Flag, Fable III, AC: Rogue, Splinter Cell, Hitman Absolution, Witcher 2, Witcher 3, and before I returned it, Dragon Age: Inquisition. FPS and FPRPG strictly mouse and keyboard though, no substitute.

I use a XBONE controller for pretty much everything other than non-controller support games like Minecraft.
I also use kb/m for Portal and Portal 2 and a few other games.

^On the subject of controllers, Valve just put out a trailer for Steam Controller, so I guess the design is finalized.

While I find they're stretching the -you can finally comfortably PC game from a couch- angle, since people have been using gamepads on PC for some time, it DOES seem to offer far easier game and net navigation than current gamepads. Just the cursor search typing alone is pure genius.

It will also be far more flexible than existing pads regarding profiles and custom bindings. Plus it's designed to be easy to use with games that were made for KB/M, something you can't really say for Sony or MS pads.

I'm not sure Valve has done enough testing and surveying to warrant making it more Xbox-like than the prior version, since a lot of gamers that use one tend to already be OK with toggles vs haptic touch pads, but I gotta say, I'd love to try one.

The only reason I can justify adding the left toggle and changing the buttons to Xbox config is for analog steering, and recognizing prompts better in made for Xbox controller games. Other than that I think I'd be more comfortable with the buttons separated and placed near the touch pads, as on the prior model.

That said, I'm not sure Valve will make Steam Controller work with Windows, as it might hurt made for SteamOS game sales, and by extension Steam Machine sales. The reason I am concerned about this is 1), Valve may not be able to keep up with made for Windows releases, and 2) SteamOS games may not be moddable or even file editable.

I suppose I'm stupid for still holding out hope for HL3 with the SteamBox release. :sarcastic:

Also the whole controller thing. Most of you are probably a bit younger than me ( 41 ) but my last console other than a Wii for the kids was a SuperNintendo. I made the transition to PC gaming full time in about 1996 so when I pick up a controller I just lack the muscle memory to effectively use it well. I don't want to play with a controller. I want to use my keyboard and mouse.

I did have the chance to housesit for my cousin in the summer of 2013 and the main reason I agreed was so I could play The Last Of Us on his PS3. It took me about 3 days to get used to the controller. I've been tempted to buy a PS4 just to play that game again. Sony sucks for not making that one available for PC. One of the best games ever.

^Yeah, I'm sure most here probably are younger anort, but you were only 2 when I graduated high school, as I'm 57. Trust me, sometimes I'd love to use a controller that actually has good response on a more comfortable chair, and not feel tied to my PC desk, but I've yet to see one.

I'm not really a big fan of using the least agile digit, thumbs, for navigation and aim, but if these haptic pads are more quick and precise than analog sticks, it's a step in the right direction.

I hope there will be test stations in stores to try out this controller, because I really want to give it a shot.

OK, better get back on topic before this gets out of hand. I'm currently playing and enjoying Project CARS and The Evil Within. I'm currently racing LMP 3 class, and picked the Radical (though am wishing I'd chosen the team with the Caterham).

The Rad slips a bit but I was able to tweak tire pressure, brake balance and traction control slip just enough to grip adequately on keyboard once the tires warm up. I gotta say, I'm shocked at how well they implemented the analog filters for KB driving.

In TEW I'm midway through a Nightmare run. Some parts have been easier than I expected due to learning tricks from prior play throughs, and some places have been tough trying to get through without wasting too many resources.

I killed the Sentinel for the first time just to check out the loot. Not sure it was worth it, but made me feel more confident. I'm starting to find Flash bolts are quite useful, esp in that spot early on with Joseph where he's hacking through doors.

Akumu mode is going to be a real pain. I've yet to try Mein Leben mode in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, because I'm not a big fan of one life modes. Not sure Akumu's one hit kill is any better, especially since I've read the AI are tougher too.

That said, I ran through the dark area with the invisible guys in TEW this time without using any weapons. It's going to be a mad dash for checkpoints on Akumu.

Well it's nice not to be the oldest fart in the room  Quite a few of the mods are older than me but I'm one of the older what I would call 'hardcore' gamers.

Steam has a pretty good track record as far as I'm concerned so I would try one of their game pads as well.

Yeah I often feel like the million pound gorilla in the room if I mention it on forums, but I was shocked on the Ubi Far Cry 4 forum when several guys older than me started seeking help with the game. Suddenly I felt like a skin flint. Who woulda thunk.

I've always only ever been a PC gamer, and actually got started at it later than you (2000, 2001), but who knows, maybe eventually I'll just have a Steam Link and Steam Controller, and not have all this clutter. It'll be the smallest gaming system out there.

Witcher 3 is the game for me right now. I had put in around 120 hours into it before deciding to start over (did not finish yet at that time). And now I have just over 100 hours into my new playthrough and definitely will get at least another 100 hours more minimum...likely closer to 200 - 250 more though.

It is a very immersive and great game. I tried the first two but could not get into them. And while the newest one does have quite a few glitches and issues, it is still a great game. I was on the fence originally about getting the expansions, but will be doing that eventually.

I just need a game that can occupy my time until Xenoblade Chronicles X is released...as that is the next big game for me.

I had considered getting Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, but since it was not on the console, I had to pass. I don't really play my 3DS because of the screen size, and games like Monster Hunter should be enjoyed on a large screen for sure.

I just heard about XCOM 2 today, so looking forward to that whenever it hits, but will likely wait for the price to drop. There are a lot of games that I am waiting for price drops...such as Dying Light, Shadow of Mordor, and a ton of other newer games.

I can say for sure that I will be purchasing Fallout 4 at launch though. :)
