Yeah, it was long. But I was pretty engaged with it. I never knew that an hour had passed since the game started. It was pretty thrilling for me, despite the slow start. I wasn't bothered at all.
Kojima really is a genius regarding the direction of this game. All the right shots and sequences at the right time.
I was kinda surprised with the fire guy and the teleporting woman/man. Then again, I've never played an MGS game before, so I wouldn't know too well of the lore.

MGSV prologue needs to be played with a controller IMO. The force feedback is perfect. Like when he looks at his left hand the FF amplitude is set in the left side of the controller. Also when the doctor leans over you placing his hand on the bed you can feel a subtle FF at the exact right spot. Kojima's camera direction is amazing. It perfectly simulates as someone is holding the camera and shooting the scene. You can see the camera bobbing as the camera holder is walking. None of the other games have such perfect camera simulation. Also the presentation is perfect for introducing the controls system to the player. And he starts in the prone position. Perfectly logical for a stealth game.

Yeah the prologue was long, but it was mostly because I had like 45 minutes before I wanted to quit before a TV show I wanted to watch came on. Little did I know I'd be sitting through a 1 hr + prologue. Was worth having to DL the TV show though.

I'm also new to MGSV, well technically since Ground Zeroes. I tried a demo of one of the older ones that was put on PC. but was immediately put off by the horrible graphics and controls, so I don't really count it.

As for controls, I would never play a tactical shooter with gamepad, even if I were inclined to use them. I can see FF vibration for race games to simulate road surfaces, but realistically, vibrations can't be used to simulate too much, accurately anyway. I think they've taken it too far. And yes, I have played segments of some games on my friend's PS4, so I know what the experience is like in non race games.

That said, I can see feedback regarding torque specifically making sense if you're grappling with someone. Like a feature that makes the pad torque against your push, pull, left, right movement to simulate someone engaged in a grapple with you. Mere vibration is far overdone though. It's almost as antiquated as gamepad design itself.

As far as MGSV's gameplay, I have the little pooch now and have played a few missions going for all the side tasks. I'm focusing on that more than score for now so I'll know how to do all tasks when I want to go for good score. Remaining undetected by the Skulls was easier than I thought it would be. Extracting the Wakh Sind commander with stealth is proving to be far more difficult. I've extracted him, just not with stealth yet.

The Mother Base seems a bit plain at first, I'm assuming it will be MUCH more fleshed out once upgraded, but I'm still wondering where they're going to put those animals I extract. I think a remote oasis with a rim canyon around it and large cave in the back of the rim wall would have made more sense than something that looks like an offshore oil rig, but then I've not really followed the MGS story.

I'll probably play Mad Max some more today just to keep from burning out on MSGV.

You should try GTA 5 Online for PC, Assassin's Creed Unity is now fixed and I play it its cool and with a GTX 970 I play Arkham Knight on Ultra with AA and I get 80 FPS.

Yeah, I heard of that too. Hopefully the release won't be near buggy as Unity was.

I've finished the Dead Money DLC and now going through Old world blues.
I only managed to snag 1 gold bar out of the vault in the casino. I think I could've done a lot better. Ah well, doesn't matter now. I trapped Elijah in the vault rather than kill him. I killed him the first time around, but I couldn't get to the elevator by the time the collar went off. So I reloaded and decided to just sneak away.

I have been playing Deadpool. I know its not the most incredible graphics, or a physics marvel. (pun intended) But its been a lot of fun. Someone talked me into checking it out, and it has been worth the $20. I would call it a arcade style hack and slash. Very funny if you like somewhat crude humor, which i do, and some real replay value.

On a different note, is anyone else as excited as I am for Rise of the Tomb Raider? What about Rainbow Six Siege?

The title suggests it will have more elaborate tombs, but after TR 2013 brought in a whole new fanbase that don't care much about that kind of stuff, and their not really having showed the sophistication of tombs yet, I remain skeptical.

The combat also seems very bow heavy. It's about all you ever see her use in the trailers.

I enjoyed the previous TR. I like how its a little more about combat and a little less about puzzles. However, one of the things that I am on the fence about is the new crafting and survival system. It looks like a much more involved and micro economy sort of approach. This could make it more challenging, or more immersive, or make it a mind numbing grind to find more widgets...

I finished Old World Blues DLC too now. I have to say, I'm getting burnt out on this game. I just went past through the main quests of the DLC and didn't get any incentive to finish up the side quests. I think I'll skip Lonesome Road and just be done with the main quest.
I'm 60 hours in and I think it's time to end my journey in the Mojave.

The first time I played New Vegas I was expecting Fallout 3 and didn't get it so I was slightly disappointed and just played the main quest and a few side quests. It took me 42 hours because that's what it sat at on Steam for a couple of years. Then I got all the DLC and decided to try it again probably 3 years later. That playthrough I tried to finish all the quests I could trigger and all the DLC and I guess it took around 89 hours because I believe I've only played it twice and I'm on 131 hours according to Steam. I really enjoyed the second time. Maybe because it had been even more time since I played Fallout 3 and I wasn't comparing it directly anymore but it really stood out a great game in its own right the second time.

Like an idiot I installed State of Decay again. Last time I did that I lost 300+ hours.

Thief is pretty good a few minutes in. Reminds me of Dishonored a bit so far.

I loved the Tomb Raider reboot and I'm looking forward to the new game on PC. The last one was a bit liner and as such the replay value suffered but I played it twice. Graphics were great.

Well. I finally finished it. What a ride it was. Great game. Really looking forward to Fallout 4 now.

I sided with the NCR and took down the Legion at Hoover dam. I had the followers of the apocalypse get forcibly moved from their camp, which was the only thing I didn't like about my ending. Also, I kinda ignored the fiends in Vault 3 whom ultimately led a massacre at Camp McCaran, which I also didn't like. The rest was what I expected.

Recently got MGSV, Mad Max and SOMA, but it's definitely been Mad Max that has me playing it daily. It's a much better game than I'd anticipated. SOMA I wasn't expecting to like as much because I prefer horror games to have some combat, or at least defensive/evasive tactics like Alien Isolation. MGSV though is a good game, it's just that it takes patience and a fairly long session time each time you play it.

What was surprising to me about Mad Max is it actually has a very good mix of different environments for what appears to be on the surface a bland desert world. It also has a pretty good upgrade system. You really have a lot of ways you can build a car. I actually prefer no armor and ram bars, since it keeps it light and fast. Once you upgrade the Boost, Thunderpoon and ammo count, you're pretty lethal, even if you use the weapons as a last resort.

The harpoon is a nice gadget in itself, and there are many ways you can use it, from yanking snipers off their perch, to pulling down mortar towers, to grabbing doors off ship containers, or gates off camps. There's no more exciting use than to cleverly deploy it in fast car combat against convoy vehicles though, stripping off armor to expose the driver or explosive containers.

The on-foot combat is also much better than some have reviewed it to be. While similar to that of Batman and Shadow of Mordor, it also stands alone with it's own style. It has a distinctly different pace and animations, and shiv, shotgun and hand to hand finish moves. I also like the boss fights.

The storms are a feature in themselves, and often a sight to behold. Many are just sandstorms, but when you encounter a sand/electrical storm at night, it's quite an experience, with loud clapping thunder and damaging flash lightning. I've not encountered any lightning bolts yet, and don't know if there will be any, but it would be a nice touch now and then.

The graphics and atmosphere are great. There are many underground scenarios, and the right angle flashlight mounted to Max's chest combined with an FOV that is just right, make for an eerie experience, an you can only see what's in front of you. There are a couple underground missions in particular that feel like something out of a horror game.

There are of course some nonsensical things in the game. For instance head on rams take little to no damage even with no ram bar. Minefields are more of an area threat lowering task than a sensible feature, as each field doesn't really guard anything of value you need to get to, and there are only 3 mines per field. Max also takes less damage than his vehicle when struck by other vehicles on foot.

For the most part though, it's a very compelling and fun game to play. Each time I fire it up, I get a lot of action happening within a short period of time. I'm also compelled to just see what comes, with very little strategy (save for vehicle combat). That's where the game is at it's best, it has you randomly exploring places on the map just to see what will happen. Sure, you'll often plan where to go to get this or that as well, but you quite often find yourself just roaming to the next nearest map feature to see what direction the game will take you.

I launched a rocket, achieved orbit, matched orbits, rendezvoused (how do you spell that?) with an uncontrollable capsule, flew an astronaut over from her useless husk of a spacecraft to my shiny rocket, de-orbited, re-entered and splashed down safely.

Now, I have a kerbal on the mun that needs rescuing, I have a pretty decent idea how to get to minmus (Kerbal/Earth's second moon) and there's a mission in my quest log to put a satellite in orbit of whatever the equivalent of Mars is.

Kerbal Space Program is pretty sweet.

And if anyone who was in the beta is thinking of picking it up again: re-entering from orbit is now dangerous and killing kerbals is a lot easier. You have been warned.

Nice to see you're really enjoying Mad Max, Frag.
I'm starting to get compelled into playing it. Would you say it's like Shadow of Mordor in any way? Or do you feel it's better?

I've started MGS V now that I've finished Fallout New Vegas. Finished up the first episode and now I'm at mother base.

The ironic thing is, despite much of Mordor's battles being more overwhelming, and Max's battles being smaller and more manageable, with combat mechanics that are easier than both Mordor and Batman, I got much more bored with Mordor, primarily because you can so easily exploit Domination.

Not to say that combat is totally easy in Max. You CAN and will get simple offensive strikes interrupted often and continuously, so until you get special moves unlocked that aren't, you need to either use shotgun or shivs a lot, as well as many counters (which are pretty easy to time). It's your choice how much to upgrade and what tactics to use though.

Some enemy strikes can't be countered though, and you must dodge roll, or strike in furry rage mode after your combo count builds, which breaks through them. Some boss battles facilitate luring lunging enemies into hazards via a last minute dodge. Picking up random large melee weapons from fallen enemies adds another dimension. The shotgun finisher move is one of the most devastating and satisfying combat tactics when the going gets tough though, and well rendered both visually and aurally.

Tactics wise you can go in loud and obvious with minimal skill buffs and leave the war crier hanging to get a harder challenge against rage buffed enemies, or use all the upgrades available and slip in unnoticed to get the jump on them. Many camps have stealth entrance routes to find. In some camps you can kill quite a few enemies just sitting in the car outside the main entrance shooting the harpoon.

You have to like a game with lots of driving though, and it feels a bit slippery until you get your car upgraded. I happen to play race games though, including fairly challenging ones like NFS Shift 1&2, Project CARS, etc, so it felt completely natural to me. You WILL have frustrating spin-outs at first though, esp if you are not careful to let up on gas through turns, and accelerate on the straights.

The car building, upgrading, driving and combat is addicting once you get a good car built though, and I like that the game has a sensible upgrade system, where handling and speed are adversely affected by large heavy engines and armor and bash grills. It keeps you from reaping all benefits of upgrades, and forces you to strategize a good balance, and one that fits your play style.

So, yes, I like Mad Max better than Shadow of Mordor. I'm at most halfway done, and already my encounters with main adversaries feels better than even most of the final battles in Mordor. In fact I found the ending of Mordor to be very underwhelming. The battle with the first Black Hand captain was actually better.

Mordor is a game that had great potential, but Domination, poor mouse control, and weak boss battles kinda killed it for me. Max by comparison is a pleasantly surprising sleeper title that I feel is one of the most compelling games of the year to play.

lately have been switching back and forth between Dark Souls: Scholar of the First Sin, GTA V, and this passed week finally getting started on my Dark Souls: Prepare To Die newgame+. just before this batch i replayed Fallout 3 & New Vegas and their DLCs with some slight gameplay and visual modding on both games. had to prepare for 4. both are still great games.

finally completed Dark Souls 2 and am now running back through and finishing up unlit bonfires and any sections and mini-bosses that i may have missed. love the game almost as much as the first installment. has much smoother gameplay and better inventory management.

GTA V is incredibly open and looks fantastic. the "realness" of the world and the people is hilarious in it's satirical splendor. i have really enjoyed my playthrough. trying to finish up all the Stranger & Freaks and other side-missions I can find since completing the main story missions.

Dark Souls' new game+ has been waiting for me for a couple years now. since completing the main story and Crowns content in Dark Souls 2 i finally decided to get back to it. when i first saw this game on console years ago i was totally impressed. had never seen a game that used gravity against you to this extent with strength and dexterity affecting your character and their usage of weapons and armor so effectively. when it finally came to PC i was more than happy and have totally loved it.

have put off my Witcher 3 newgame+ until the latest DLC/expansion arrives. definitely one of my favorite franchises and Wild Hunt has become one of my favorite games. my initial playthrough was awesome. next will get back into Pillars of Eternity with it's The White March, Part 1 expansion...if Fallout 4 isn't out yet.

I don't get into shooters much anymore because most have become geared around online play nowadays. but, I have really enjoyed Far Cry 3 & 4. Crysis 2 & 3 were okay. I still play and enjoy S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl with updated mods, one of my favorite games. The new Wolfenstein games were pretty fun. Interstellar Marines looks like it will be amazing when it finally launches a finished product. The Metro games were also pretty fun. and Dying Light has shooter aspects later in the game, i thought it was great.
There's a new Unreal coming out soon, Fallout 4, and a few others that look pretty promising.

Yeah I was really hoping the Nemesis system would make the game compelling to play, but there was just too many things going against it to make it a significant impact on the gameplay.

Don't know if you guys have heard, but Ubi just released a couple vids showcasing their new Far Cry title called Primal, which will take place in the stone age.

I'm kinda skeptical about this to tell you the truth. I get the feeling from the behind the scenes video that we'll see 100 different variations of clubs, spears and bows, all of which basically have the same effect. I just don't think they'll be able to offer much variety in gameplay or objects to keep it from feeling very repetitious and bland.

I think I'd rather they'd have used the stone age a s tie-in to the past of a currently existing primitive tribe, like Shangri-La was to the people of Kyrat. As always though, I won't know until I play it, but at this point, Syndicate looks more interesting, and I never thought I'd say that about AC vs FC.

Personally I have no interest in a Far Cry game without guns; to me it's like playing Crysis/Duke Nukem/Doom/Quake series with no guns.

One thing all of the Far Cry games have done well is the guns. It's hard to get excited about "ooo a sharp rock" or "oooo a sharp stick". It just loses something.

I am so ready for Fallout 4, I can hardly sleep from excitement, and it doesn't even come out for a month. (Either that or it is insomnia, but w/e).

I just played through Dead Rising 2 for the first time, that was pretty sweet. Really feeling like zombie killing, so I might go play some State of Decay to hold me over. Although I did just start playing Azure Dreams again. I also just bought Tales of Monkey Island and wanna give that a run through. Then again I haven't played Fable 2 or Fable 3 for a while and miss those. Or Starcraft II, though I am still pissed at Blizzard for their security settings that have kept me locked out of a game I paid $60 for, for over 2 years now for no reason at all and make me show my drivers license to recover my account (seriously, WTF blizzard? I pre-ordered Heart of the Swarm, still haven't even opened it yet because of this B&@#S*#7!!).

Was really going hardcore on Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires on Chaos mode, which is ridiculously hard. Almost conquered all of China, then my Xbox 360 decided it couldn't allow that to happen so stopped being able to find the saved game data. Wouldn't mind playing some Warcraft III or The 7th Guest either. It is close to Halloween after all, but that would mean getting back to work on my "Quest For Retro Gaming" piece, and I have too many side projects going right now.

If you can't tell, I'm extremely indecisive on some things, such as games.
