It's listed on each item's build page. It will be in red. See here at 2:23 it shows a shotgun turret and in red it says requires 2.

When you have power hooked up to an item that red changes to green meaning it has the power it needs. See 3:08 of the video for an example.
Yeah I know that, but you should have shown where you found how much power is REQUIRED, not how much is yielded by the generators, because that determines which ones you use.
I tried highlighting the transmitter, but saw no stat, because that device is not even in the build library. With other items it's much easier as shown in the video.
The video only proves what I'm saying. He starts off explaining the reason for making it was getting LOTS of questions about how to power devices, making it clear they do not explain it well enough in game. And when they DO explain things in game, it's in a tiny text box in the upper left corner of the screen that only briefly flashes.
Also, so far, at least 40 or more hours into the game, they don't seem to give you much idea of what you'll actually NEED for settlement defense. After ALL the crap I had to build up the Sanctuary base with, I've yet to see ANYONE invade the place. And that's a BIG reason to hold off on construction, due to apathy or confusion.
In a survival type RPG game, it is IMPERATIVE they let you know well what you NEED to spend your resources on, and that is one major thing they are horrible at doing. It's OK if you want to be in constant suspense and have to play by trial and error, but even with that, much of the construction and modding seems totally unnecessary.
On the point of modding, I'm glad I didn't actually mod a suppressor on my level 51 sniper rifle, because I just found a .50 caliber one with 103 damage, and it HAS a suppressor. And it was just some random Gunner chick, nothing Legendary, which is another thing that's kinda overrated.
I also had a VERY annoying bug with a leg armor that adds chameleon invisibility cloaking while still. I couldn't see any of the text in the Pip Boy while wearing it, so I decided to just drop it. And that WAS a Legendary device, whoo hoo!
I swore I'd not use VATS in this play through, but finally broke down and started using it. It makes taking on swarms of creatures and humans a bit easier, but mainly it helps you level up quicker. I'd much prefer they tack that amount of XP onto things that are far harder to do, like getting headshots on moving targets or whatever, just not something so arcade and easy.
Anyway, finally got my Power Armor back! At some point Preston just decided to jump out of it when I was talking to him after a quest, and I wasn't even in the Talk part of the dialog menu.
However, now I have another problem, which may be even worse. I've happened upon the infamous Cambridge Police Station glitch, whereby you keep falling through the floor upon entering the place.
I may try the workaround, which involves saving as you're falling, then jumping on top of the mass debri blocking the door to exit, but I really don't want to risk running out of usable saves.
I waited quite a while to get this game, only to find it's still as buggy if not more so than a lot of games at launch. Bethesda are a lot like Ubisoft, they have great creative concepts, but very poor execution on the tech end.
Don't get me wrong, I'm fully immersed and loving the game. I just have a tendency to notice flaws more in ones I love, than ones I don't. A love/hate affair so to speak.
