^Yeah that one definitely works, thanks. Maybe the other one was not liking my ad blocker.

I had already found Salem though, via the intro of a YouTube vid I saw with it's location on the map. Barney Rook was nowhere to be found at his house or anywhere in Salem though. I've read others have had the same problem, one of them having played 100 hrs. I really want that Reba II sniper rifle. So far I've only found a pipe sniper rifle at the lighthouse nearby, where I battled some crazy guys worshiping a glowing Ghoul.

I guess I'll just head to Libertalia instead to try to get Le Fusil Terribles. The game is OK, but buggy as hell. Still can't get Preston out of the Power Armor, and I can't find him now either. I think he may have gone off to set up for taking back the castle. I tried answering Yes once to see if I could end that line of dialog and get the exit suit option to pop up.

I never found that exact sniper rifle but I found one that shoots 2 projectiles at once for twice the damage. I mostly stuck to reflex sights even on long range weapons. I did get Le Fusil Terribles although it's just a modded combat shotgun with a huge kick. Put points in the Armorer, Blacksmith and Science perks and you will be able to fully mod your own weapons and armor.

Oh you can probably get
the Alien Blaster. It's near Oberland station assuming the UFO crash triggered. You might not have noticed it because it can happen when you are in combat.

Yeah I've read about that one, but please say where or it's pointless to mention.

More chat I've read says weapon spawns depend on your level. So far I've struck out on every sniper rifle stash I've read about. The last one supposedly being at Mass Gravel & Sand near Lexington, but it only had a lousy pipe pistol in it.

Game started out fun, but is quickly degrading into a buggy chaotic mess.

I don't remember where. It was probably a random drop from a Legendary enemy somewhere like almost all the good stuff in the game. A high Luck stat makes those encounters more likely to yield good loot.

I managed to find a fairly good sniper rifle in a building adjacent to the Cambridge Police HQ on my way to the mission to investigate it. The building is just to the right of the Police HQ as you're looking at it's front door.

The damage spec on the rifle is 40 something I think. I've come to find damage specs seem to vary according to what level the player is when they obtain it though. I was only level 11 I think. Even weapon types seem to vary a lot though.

So far I've used it to take out an Assaultron and most of the Raiders on the way to getting Le Fusil Terribles, and most of the Super Mutants at the Investigate the Satellite Array quest for the Brotherhood of Steel.

The Raiders on the way to the Le Fusil Terribles were easy, but the Assaultron and the Super Mutants were LONG stealth battles. I know you can go a bit faster using VATS, but that's such a cheesy mechanic, I don't really use it.

I found out I didn't really have to take out the Assaultron, because it turned out Le Fusil Terribles was the opposite direction, but I learned a lot about that enemy doing it. The Super Mutants at the Revere Satellite Array are some of the funniest I've encountered.

So I'm back to feeling a bit more confident now, and I can see why weapon placements are somewhat randomized to keep things fresh and intimidating. I'm still hoping I can get the Rook Family House quest to trigger though, and I've yet to find Preston, whom took off in my Power Armor.

There is guaranteed X-01 power armor here at any level.

https://www.vg247.com/2015/11/18/fallout-4-how-to-get-x01-power-armor/

Be prepared to fight an Assaultron and a Sentry Robot but it's the best power armor in the game. You will find it in other places as well but it only becomes more common at higher levels.

OK, thanks, I'll check that out. I've yet to fight a Sentry Bot, but I have one waiting that I can use north of Sanctuary, but it can only be used a few places.

I've dropped my sniper rifle I had (which was actually 51 damage I found out), because I found a Hardened Sniper Rifle that's 64 Damage. I think I may put a suppressor on it.

I'm currently level 16 and have been unlocking quite a variety of perks, though too busy to do any serious modding yet.

The last one that sucked me in was Lone Wanderer. It's quite nice to have 50 more carry weight and 15% less damage just for not being with a companion. I don't even need PA to carry PA weight.

It seems to me these level up games to a point make damage increasing mods a bit useless, because as you level up, so do the weapons you find.

I remember in Dead Island I was always finding better damage weapons not long after modding ones.

Keep adding points to the Gun Nut, Armorer, and Science perks and you will be able to configure all your guns and armor yourself.

The Witcher 3 is huge! The map just keeps getting bigger and I'm still only in the Velen / Novigrad area. 45 hours in and I'm only level 14. Seems like it takes forever to advance. I really like how challenging it is. I really hate the controls though. It's just not very mouse and keyboard friendly.

You can turn on the alternate movement for Geralt in the gameplay options I think, if you haven't done it already. Makes moving him around so much easier. As for the clunky controls, you'll get used to it. I stopped bothering after 10 or 20 hours in.

there are console commands for moving/placing NPCs. if you don't ever remember where you sent Preston to, find them and try it.
did you cancel him as companion or just lose him? wrong settlement could've been chosen after the "send to" dialogue. could just be at one of them you haven't checked.
the "stay" option could've been triggered during dialogue, he could just be standing in the middle of nowhere.
sometimes they will take a decent amount of time to get to where you've sent them because they're walking. if it's been more than a couple hours probably not the case.

when/if you find him there is definitely a "Exit Power Armor" dialogue option. it is immediately after "Talk". but all quest specific dialogue may have to be finished first.

i've been keeping the toggle "walk" option set almost all of the time. it resets every so often with loading screens and dialogue but it's become instinctual pressing the key whenever needed now. when he's always sprinting it's hard to get precise control a lot of the time. while walk is toggled running with shift is still available.

I already have Gun Nut at level 2, and I have to level up more to get level 3.

Grinding, poor controls, and having to use magic on higher difficulty modes is why I passed on TW3. Plus I really don't like their combat system. I much prefer the way Bethesda made Skyrim.

That "Taking Independence" quest to reclaim the castle was not at all what I'd expected. I thought we were going to be fighting hordes of high level raiders or Super Mutants.

The first phase of Mirelurkers is of course easy, but that damn queen. Then when I killed it, I found Preston had fled halfway across the map, only to be traipsing back to the castle once I found him. We had to mash our way through several fights on the way back.

Then when we got back, I was fumbling trying to get the right generator set up for the radio transmitter, which I had to watch a video for. Is there even a way of knowing what type of generator you need?

items state what power level they need. generators state what power level they produce and the settlement interaction screen shows what power level the settlement is currently at along with food, water, beds, etc.

I've looked for those specs but don't see them. Where are they?

It's listed on each item's build page. It will be in red. See here at 2:23 it shows a shotgun turret and in red it says requires 2.

When you have power hooked up to an item that red changes to green meaning it has the power it needs. See 3:08 of the video for an example.

Lately i've been playing Battlefield 4, just bought the game on Origin a week ago, it looks pretty amazing as well. I also played some Splinter Cell: Blacklist recently, to be honest it's one of the best stealth games ever, besides SC: Chaos Theory - and in my opinion, it's better than MGS V.

The game that i'm looking forward to play is Tom-Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands - God, that game just looks REALLY amazing, hopefully Ubisoft didn't mess that game up. It seems that the game is going to be an action open-world tactical co-op game, looks fun though. Hopefully i'm going to buy the game after release.

Yeah I know that, but you should have shown where you found how much power is REQUIRED, not how much is yielded by the generators, because that determines which ones you use.

I tried highlighting the transmitter, but saw no stat, because that device is not even in the build library. With other items it's much easier as shown in the video.

The video only proves what I'm saying. He starts off explaining the reason for making it was getting LOTS of questions about how to power devices, making it clear they do not explain it well enough in game. And when they DO explain things in game, it's in a tiny text box in the upper left corner of the screen that only briefly flashes.

Also, so far, at least 40 or more hours into the game, they don't seem to give you much idea of what you'll actually NEED for settlement defense. After ALL the crap I had to build up the Sanctuary base with, I've yet to see ANYONE invade the place. And that's a BIG reason to hold off on construction, due to apathy or confusion.

In a survival type RPG game, it is IMPERATIVE they let you know well what you NEED to spend your resources on, and that is one major thing they are horrible at doing. It's OK if you want to be in constant suspense and have to play by trial and error, but even with that, much of the construction and modding seems totally unnecessary.

On the point of modding, I'm glad I didn't actually mod a suppressor on my level 51 sniper rifle, because I just found a .50 caliber one with 103 damage, and it HAS a suppressor. And it was just some random Gunner chick, nothing Legendary, which is another thing that's kinda overrated.

I also had a VERY annoying bug with a leg armor that adds chameleon invisibility cloaking while still. I couldn't see any of the text in the Pip Boy while wearing it, so I decided to just drop it. And that WAS a Legendary device, whoo hoo!

I swore I'd not use VATS in this play through, but finally broke down and started using it. It makes taking on swarms of creatures and humans a bit easier, but mainly it helps you level up quicker. I'd much prefer they tack that amount of XP onto things that are far harder to do, like getting headshots on moving targets or whatever, just not something so arcade and easy.

Anyway, finally got my Power Armor back! At some point Preston just decided to jump out of it when I was talking to him after a quest, and I wasn't even in the Talk part of the dialog menu.

However, now I have another problem, which may be even worse. I've happened upon the infamous Cambridge Police Station glitch, whereby you keep falling through the floor upon entering the place.

I may try the workaround, which involves saving as you're falling, then jumping on top of the mass debri blocking the door to exit, but I really don't want to risk running out of usable saves.

I waited quite a while to get this game, only to find it's still as buggy if not more so than a lot of games at launch. Bethesda are a lot like Ubisoft, they have great creative concepts, but very poor execution on the tech end.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully immersed and loving the game. I just have a tendency to notice flaws more in ones I love, than ones I don't. A love/hate affair so to speak.

the radio transmitter is always available for crafting once the mission including it has been started.
if it's the Freedom tower transmitter you're trying to power up it doesn't take too much power so you should have the supplies. If you overpower it you can store the extra generators for later settlements or just save right before and load again to correct it once you've figured it out.
for other items, before you build them it's displayed here:
O7cIfCN.png
for items that have already been built, it also displays in a similar box.

i've also just loaded about 6 different saves just now through varying points of the game checking to make sure the "Exit Power Armor" dialogue is available for different companions.
3lbMhq5.png

maybe there really is an issue with your installation if you are really having these dialogue issues and should try for a reinstall.

i've seen others with falling through floors and items bugs and almost every time they've claimed that loading previous saves led to the problem not happening. seems to be random determined by how you approach the area/items.

I think he means the generator requirements for the radio at the Castle which requires it's own large generator with an output of 10 I believe.

now you guys got me playing again. figured i d go back and see how my mortar launcher was doing there, since the place was never mentioned again in the game and we're on the subject. and while there did see the exact same type of display for the Transmitter as other powered items:
vSCVWjI.png

so i wouldn't blame the game for not giving the information.

No, I'm talking about the transmitter itself, not the beacon, which in reality is just the antenna. It's the actual box on the ground which has the node which you connect to the generator. THAT is the part which would draw the power, not the antenna. It can be highlighted, but since it's not a construction part (but probably should be), it doesn't show it's requirements.

So basically it leaves you to poking around guessing, largely because they haven't got all the parts right.

@JBG,

Trust me, I am fully aware of the save, quit, reload to fix textures not rendering trick, but this is a bug caused by one of the updates, and every search I've found says there's only that one workaround. It's also not just a rendering bug. It appears it may be causing certain assets not to load properly. Even after the workaround, the police station doors are piled with junk on the inside.

If you didn't see it happen, you probably finished all the Brotherhood of Steel quests before update 1.2 I didn't have this problem at all before that update, and searching confirms that is what causes it.

I've also tried save, quit, and reload after entering the police station, which had no effect, but I've yet to try it while falling through the floor. What happens is it loads you facing the police station door from the inside, but when you turn around you see partial exterior landscapes and skies, and fall down if you take a step into the abyss.

At first I tried to convince myself I could do without playing anymore BoS quests, but I like Paladin Danse and the quest I did with him. I also just saw one of the coolest scenes yet in the game after...
...exiting the building where Kellogg was after killing him. It was the BoS blimp flying by with a PA announcement.

And BTW, that glitch isn't just on PC, it happens on PS4 too, and maybe Xone too. That is the kind of thing that helps confirm it to be caused by an update issued to all platforms.

i had issues similar to that with Fallout 3 & Oblivion. console command "tcl" turning on the no clip feature always stopped me from getting stuck(though that's not quite what's going on here), but also worked when falling through the world into the big nothing. i would imagine once inside the station and the problem starts if you can "no clip" to a stable platform and then turn off the feature you may be okay. saving and reloading from there hopefully would allow the rest of the station to stabilize if given the chance to render correctly.

there are some cool circumstances you get into with the BoS, on their side and later against them(if you go that path). i definitely wouldn't want to bypass those parts of the game.
