No two people are necessarily going to think the same game is great. I'm one of those who loved Witcher 3. Patience is a must if one is to get the most out of Witcher 3 but patience is not on everyone's agenda.

As the game progressed and the scenery got better and better I could spend ages just trotting along on my horse looking at the scenery. And I found the Quests got more and more interesting and the combat easier to master, with patience.

Never played more than a single game of gwent - ignored it through Witcher 3 and the expansions Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone- both of which (for me at least) took the Witcher 3 'enjoyment bar' even higher..

It's possible that all the talk about the game made those who never played it, raise their expectations bar too high. You can't blame them. Lots of people on the internet talk of CDPR as the ideal developers since they made decisions which are really gamer friendly, such as free DLC, constant updates to the game, no DRM etc. It isn't becaues they are ideal, it's that they're taking an approach that others don't do anymore.
Then we see people who talk about the game, claiming it's the best one ever made. It isn't and it never hoped to be. It's just the final chapter to Geralt's story. There are always going to be people with different tastes so if mythical, long drawn RPGs aren't your thing, then chances are, you won't like this very much.

As for me, I love RPGs. I like Fallout, Elder Scrolls and the Witcher games. If it didn't interest you in the first 1 or 2 hours, don't shelve it off just yet. Keep playing and if it still doesn't grow on you, then you can do what you please.

^agree. I do prefer open world/fps vs RPG. But this really drew me in. Don't know why.

I'm pro-CDPR because it is probably the most optimised game for PC hardware. Nothing looks this good and takes such little resource. Fallout optimisation is garbage, Far Cry 4 had CPU issues, Just Cause 3 the same....it was refreshing to see a game use all the hardware it needed to good effect, without any random 'enter a town and watch your FPS drop because we can't code a game' nonsense a al FO4 and JC3.

/Rant!

I've played both Bioshock 2 and Infinite, but I haven't played the first game. I know, I know, lots of people say it's the best of the three. I'll give it a try sometime.

I'm nearly to the end of Black Mesa. Combat is really fun in this game and hard, especially the soldiers. They show no mercy. I'm really enjoying it.
As for Obduction, well, I've gotten further into the story, but I'm facing some obstacles and it seems I'm stuck right now. I haven't checked any walktrhoughs though. I've been balancing between this and Black Mesa for some time now.

I've basically finished Fallout 4. 207 hours. There are still a few side quests I could do but I wrapped up the main quest lines in Nuka World last night and I think that will finish this playthrough for me. I really enjoyed the Nuka World DLC and it was larger than I though it was going to be. So I guess I'll give the modders time to do their thing and come back to FO4 at a later date.

Now I can finally go back to Blood and Wine which I can't believe I haven't done yet.

Haha. I haven't touched the Blood and Wine for some time either. It's strange. Usually I'll be really excited to get back into the Witcher world, but I suppose it's because I've got lots of other games to finish off first.

I'm really enjoying Blood and Wine. It adds a totally new looking lush, hilly, vineyard landscape to the game, and has some interesting new creatures, as well as nicely written quests, some of which have hilarious moments.

Just started Doom tonight, and did you guys know, Ubi is offering The Crew for free through Sept, and it's yours to keep. I have to admit, Doom looks a bit better than I expected, and has some areas that are darker than the trailers.

Haven't finished DLing The Crew yet, but it should be done in about half an hour. As you can see, I too have fallen into a habit of putting off playing new games I have, because I get side tracked with other ones. LOL

The Crew is free to download?

I'll have to check that out. Excuse my noob question but where is it being distributed....Steam etc or does Ubi have it's own thing that I'm not familiar with.

Thanks.

I'm a bit of a retro gamer myself - I use ZSNES for most of my favorite SNES games like DKC2 and Super Mario. On an interesting side-note, I've met Dave Wise, the guy who composed the DKC2 soundtrack.

About 60hrs in Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The verticality in this game is insane.

Ubisoft has uPlay. Ubisoft has been giving away games as part of its 30th anniversary celebration. 3 games were already given away before this month.

I'm about 45 hours in. Started a new game+ but got sidetracked by Nuka World. Now that I'm done with FO4 I'm back to Mankind Divided again. Great game. I'm still blown away by how good it looks.

Yeah sorry about no link. This is probably the same one as above, but just to make sure...

After Playing The Crew solo campaign a bit last night, I can definitely see why they're giving it away. It has a few exhilarating moments, but a lot of problems too.

1. The performance doesn't match the dated requirements. I get easily good enough FPS to play on Ultra, but if I do, I get horrible graphics glitches, like a bunch of overlayed textures and shadows. On the High preset, I don't get this problem, but the vehicles still exhibit lag when slowed down and accelerating back up to speed.

2. Controls for KB/M are pretty bad, especially mouse. Some vehicles allow free movement of mouse, while others have a terrible spring that keeps view low. Plus I've yet to find a way to adjust mouse sensitivity.

3. The GPS system is horrible. Instead of highlighting the route on the ground, it hangs overhead, and is often hard to follow at turns. Fortunately there's also a minimap with a highlighted route.

4. The handling is very lackluster, though I've not experimented with tuning it.

5. Most events are fairly easy to beat.

6. Just feels very arcade, like a value game vs a polished NFS type game.

Upon further inspection playing The Crew free DL, it appears it's not really a free giveaway. It's either a one month trial offer, or a limited version. Lately I see a lot of tabs appearing to Buy The Crew Wild Run. It first started when entering a bike dealership. I thought at first it was just a special model of bike, but every bike I tried to buy said Buy The Crew Wild Run.

I just got to a point where the handler got me a pass to a multi event gathering near Detroit for qualified racers, and I'm told the Elite Tuners can only be bought if you Buy The Crew Wild Run. You probably saw that coming by now.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, this IS after all Ubisoft we're talking about. I knew going in they probably had a micro trans scheme or something behind it. This is worse, they want you to buy the whole game, when they called it free.

So if I get the feeling the game is a shell of what it could be, and a hindrance competitively to be restricted from these vehicles, (which I'm starting to feel already) I'll be uninstalling it, and cutting any losses before they occur.

You know the old scripture "Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for life"? Well Ubi apparently have their own, "Make a game look free, and you'll have a sucker for life". That's what they do when their product fails, they try to make up for it via deceit.

Sorry guys, silly me for thinking free meant free.

I saw it was a driving game and promptly ignored it. Not my cup of tea. 😛

I kinda sensed the second I heard they were giving away 'The Crew' for free, that it's probably a scheme to increase the player base so that they can make them buy the DLCs. It's a fairly new game and they'd be mad to give it away in it's entirety for free.

Besdies, racing/driving games aren't my thing either these days. I used to play a lot of Need For Speed back when I was much smaller though, namely Underground 2 and Most Wanted.

Personally I wouldn't call a game that's nearly 2 years old fairly new, especially one slanted more for mp than sp. This is clearly a late attempt at financial damage control for something that didn't catch on. Just the fact that their monthly list of giveaway titles includes Splinter Cell, which came out a whole 12 years prior to this, indicates what a massive failure The Crew was.

Yeah, I agree with that. The Crew was talked about a lot before release. After release, it received a lot of bashing. Financial damage control indeed. I suppose they're trying to milk out whatever it is they can get out of the game.
I was personally surprised to see Rayman Origins in their list. It's a really good platformer and I played it couple of years back.

I finished off Black Mesa. What a nice, challenging game. I only played on Normal, but it was tough enough for me. It's been a while since I've played a game where you could save at any moment you want to. It kind of makes it easy though but when you think about it, it also helps get rid of frustration. Yes, there are games today as well where you can save at any moment you wish, like the Witcher 3, but even there you couldn't do it if there were enemies nearby.

For me, I don't know where to place it in terms of my liking. The game was more confined to the facility than any other place. I liked the outside a lot, especially the Canyon but you only stay there for a brief period of time. The game is great, no doubt, but I liked the more cinematic feel of the succeeding Half Life games and the more variety in levels and the environment. Also, there's no Xen in this game so my judgement isn't complete. I'll reach to a conclusion when I play the final parts, after they are released.

Now I can devote my time to Obduction.

Black Mesa is a fan remake of Half Life with the Source Engine. So a game from 1998 remade with an engine from 2004. They put some deleted levels back in the game but they are still working on Xen and it will be added for free when they finish it. I love the series and it was great to be able to go back and replay Half Life with a good game and physics engine.

You want to do something hard, get the Rare Specimen achievement. 😉

I know it's a fan made remake but I didn't know there were deleted levels involved. That's cool.
I think I have said it earlier in this thread that I've played the original Half Life before, but the graphics were just too outdated for me to get a liking, hence the reason I opted for Black Mesa. I couldn't distinguish between what I could interact with in the environment because of the old textures. I had a really hard time. However, I do remember the Vorigaunts in the original being a bit more harder to kill. I specifically remember using the revolver to kill them as the standard pistol was inefficient.

Oh my, the soldiers in Black Mesa. They had psychic minds that could detect where you were and easily shoot you even if you were hundreds of metres apart, lol. It was fun though. I don't think I reached far enough in the original to see the soldiers though. Must have been harder than this..

Yeah the original Half Life hasn't aged very well. It's just not fun going back to graphics that old.

The levels they added back to the game were above ground and vs the soldiers.
