[SOLVED] When using a USB to SATA hard drive says that there is no Disk inserted.

So when I try and use a adapter to clone my hard drive over it says that there is no disk installed. I know that this is incorrect because I replaced my existing hard drive with the new one and it works fine and dandy. I am using the star tech adapter.

It is possible your USB is not suppling enough power for the adapter. Does the adapter have the option for external power? OR a powered USB HUB may work.

No option to have external power. Also tried regular usb, 2.0, and 3.0 ports

Are you using it with a 2.5 inch disk or a 3.5 inch?

Damn using a 3.5. Didn't catch that. I imagine there isn't much I can do about that besides just buy another cable that supports 3.5.

Yeah, your drive probably requires more power than that device can supply.
I would recommend a docking station type adapter with a separate power supply.
