i am trying to set up my daughters wirelee laptop to run off my router her comp keeps asking for a network key where is it and how do i get it

If you enabled wireless security when you installed and configured the wireless router, then you had to provide the key at that time. So YOU should have it!

If you don't have it, lost it, or don’t even remember having it, then (using a wired connection if you’ve locked even yourself out due to this problem) go into your router's administration screen (check manual, usually something like http://192.168.1.1, but might be different depending on make/model), find the wireless security section, enable WPA or WPA2 (WPA2 is better than WPA), provide a new key (see http://grc.com/password ), be sure to save the key to a file (a USB key is ideal), save/apply the changes, and finally reboot the router.

Now provide that same key to any wireless computers that prompt for it.
