Which "clients" make the best clone cards?

If you're buying a video card with an ATI chipset and you want to save a few bucks by going with someone other than ATI itself, which vendors (i.e. Visiontek, Sapphire etc..) make the best clone cards?

Is there a significant difference between an ATI card, a Sapphire knock off and an Xtasy from Visiontek?

Enquring minds wanna know...
