Hi,
I'm trying to build a homeserver from stuff I have on hand.
In general, I have a Chinese motherboard MACHINIST E5 RS9 :) to this a friend is to send three SAMSUNG PM863a 960GB drives. The motherboard supports SATA 3.0 drives.
I still have an old HP P212 sas controller with 512MB of memory. I read that it only supports SATA 2.0
In this situation it seems better to connect the drives under the motherboard but I wanted to know your opinion.

Well, depends if you want to have SATA3 or SATA2 speeds on your SSDs. Samsung drives will work on SATA2 as well (backwards compatible), but you'll have worse read/write speeds compared to SATA3.

SATA2 speeds are half of SATA3.
