Hi there,
My sister is looking to buy a budget Chromebook and cant decide between the 714 and the 514.
She is a digital artist, buying and selling art and creating her own pieces using Medibang paint, which she has been doing now for some years. However, all this she has been able to do from a Samsung tablet and, now that she is making regular income from it, she wishes to upgrade to a Chromebook (as I am told this is the best platform for Medibang Artists and is her preferred choice). However she cant decide between the Chrome 514 and 714.

Pros and cons of the two:

The Chromebook 514:

-£349.97 (Cheaper option)
-Quad-Core Intel Pentium N4200 CPU (1.1GHz/2.5GHz)
-4gb Ram
-128GB eMMC

VS

The Chromebook 714:
-£449
-Dual-core Intel Core i3-8130u (2.2GHz/3.4GHz)
-8gb Ram
-128 eMMC

Personally, I would have thought Quad-core is better than Dual-Core but that Intel Core i3 is better than Pentium, maybe? The fact that 714 is more money, has 8gb and i3 CPU, I am inclined to suggest this one. But wanted to see what the good folks here would suggest :giggle:.
Any info helps, Thanks,
Nathan.

The i3 is much better then the Pentium. Also 4GB might not be all that much if you browse lots of tabs at once since Chrome is notorious for eating up RAM.

get the 714

As far as being the best platform, I dont know. Chromebooks arent exactly powerful computers and are more designed for general computer use. I dont know anything about that specific app but I would research it further before pulling the trigger on the Chromebook. You can find new low end windows laptops or plenty of used mid range laptops for similar prices.

Thanks richiestang_78!
I thought i3 was better, but Im still a novice to the PC world. I did let her know that there are a lot of better options (instead of Chromebook) for that price range but she explained she had been warned by other digital artists to avoid windows for what she needs to do (Cant imagine why, but idk :spamafote:).
I enjoy PC gaming myself, so I would personally not go for Chromebook, but I guess for digital painting it fits the bill. Thanks again for your quick response, much appreciated (y).
