Which is better intel pentium t4500 or intel core i3

Hi, I bought two laptops yesterday, on black friday. The price difference was significant and I am wondering if the performance is that significantly different to warrant paying the extra $150. I use the laptop for streaming videos, surfing, word processing, and very little gaming (Sims 2). But I want something that isn't going to slow as a dinosaur in the next year! 😴

Here is what I bought:

HP Pavillion DV$ w/ 2nd Gen Intel core i3 (640g hard drive; 4g RAM; 14" screen) $450 + tax

Samsung RV510 w/ intel pentium T4500 (320G hard drive; 4g RAM; 15.6" screen) $299 + tax

Of course I would MUCH prefer to save the $$ as long as I'm not going to be hating it in 12 months.

The T4500 is an old processor. It'll run everyday tasks just fine, so don't worry.

The i3, however, is likely significantly faster. What model of i3 is it, do you know? Either way, so long as its 1.7 Ghz or faster, it'll whoop the T4500.

The i3 is faster, based on architecture alone. It also has more cache than the T4500. Remember, its not just the processor that makes that laptop $150 more. It has a HDD that is twice the size as the T4500 based laptop. Graphical chipset and performance will also play a role in perceived price differences. For instance, the i3 laptop is probably, and significantly, better at playing games than the T4500 laptop. Or even handling flash adds, for that matter.

Also, smaller laptops tend to be more expensive, depending on hardware set-up. Netbooks these ain't, so they follow the same typical rule: smaller = more expensive. Larger = cheaper (to a point).

imo the hp pavillion with the core i3 is better.
pentium t4500 is old technology. core i3 is new, more power-performance efficient.
core i3 has more powerful hd3000 integrated graphics in it. means it can perform graphically intensive tasks better than t4500.
you get a bigger hdd with the core i3 laptop.

Thanks! I have decided to return the Samsung T4500 and keep the HP i3. I love Samsung brand and am not so hot on HP, but hopefully it will be ok....

Pentium is older stuff, i3 has signifcantly higher performance and should keep you fine for the next few years!
