Which memory should I get?

I wish to upgrade the ram on my Compaq Presario SR5421F with Vista Home Premium SP2, 32-bit. The motherboard has two slots which are presently provided with 1GB cards, DDR2 PC2-6400. Crucial is offering a choice of two kits; one has two 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 cards at $60 and the other has two 2GB DDR2 PC2-8500 cards for $84.

Will the PC2-8500 cards provide significantly faster performance? Thanks for your help.

Your compaq will downclock the faster memory to the 6400 speed.
Choose the one with the lowest CAS latency number.
Probable CAS 4 or CAS 5 at 800 speed. CAS 4 is better.

It can only use PC2-6400 max. The PC2-8500 will be a waste of money.
