Why does my connection keep getting lost?

Hi,

For the past month or so my connection keeps getting lost whenever two computers in the house use the internet. We're connected to a 5 port switch and the switch is connected to the Modem. When both computers are online, mine keeps disconnecting, but the other one is fine. Whenever the other ethernet cable is unplugged, then mine is alright. We used to have 3 connections on at once and the same problem would repeat until the 3rd connection was cut off. But then the other two computers would be fine, other than a slight slowdown in speeds. I'm beginning to wonder if I should reinstall my computer. The computer I use is a Windows 7 Ultimate, the other one is Windows XP Professional (Sp2 I think). I tried changing the IPV4, but nothing seems to change anything. I figured that I'd do ipconfig and here is what it says.

The other computer has similar results except that the IP ends at 3 not 2.
I have tried changing the configuration, but the problem still persists.
What am I doing wrong? How do I stop my Internet from constantly disconnecting?

Speedtest.net shows: 145 ms

Down: 5.22mbps (up to 10mbps)
Up: 0.83mbps (up to 3mbps)

This is the average result when the other connection is off. When the other connection is on then Speedtest.net hardly even opens.
In fact the connection becomes as bad as Dial-Up, but probably even worse. Is ESET NOD32 the culprit here? I just can't find the solution.

Solution
It sounds like you need a UPS (battery backup) with surge protection. Bad power can easily destroy single ports on a router or switch, along with most any other electronic devices.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it's a Modem/Router. We use a D-Link DSL-2500U model.

The place where we live doesn't seem to have any 5-Port Switches. We use what we have. It worked fine up until a month ago. The area here is very bad for electricity. Whenever we have rain, thunderstorms follow. We've lost 3 modems so far, and a few other computer components. I should probably invest in a stabilizer or something similar, first. On top of that the telephone lines are poorly set. Even a strong wind can cut off the lines at times.
