Why won't my laptop hibernate when I close the lid or push the power button?

Hi

I have an Asus X550L laptop that uses Windows 8.1 and until yesterday worked fine. However, today I am finding that I can't hibernate it when pushing the power button or shutting the lid. Laptop is set to hibernate when either of those things are done (checked power settings) and after doing either of those things, I can see that it's still turned on (flashing yellow lights and screen comes on when I run my finger across the touchpad).

Check your device manager for any devices that may have gone wonky. Missing / corrupt drivers can cause a system to not hibernate.
Also check the Event Logs in Computer Management for clues, particularly the System log.
