Question Will a 3-pin RGB fan work in a 4-pin RGB header?

My friend has an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max that has two 4 pin RGB headers. He'd like to buy two RGB fans of this model https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/case-fan/masterfan-mf120-halo/#Downloads. These would be connected to one of the RGB headers on the motherboard through a splitter. Would it work since the fan's RGB is 3 pin ? Thanks.

Exactly but, the fan has a 4-pin power connector and a 3-pin RGB header. Would the 3-pin RGB header work through a splitter connected to the motherboard's 4-pin RGB header?

Well then couldn’t you just plug it into the 3 pin header? I’m having the same problem just different case/motherboard.

I'm not sure since a 4-pin RGB header is 12V and a 3-pin RGB header is 5V therefore the fan's 3-pin RGB is 5V. I'm not sure. This is the first time I meddling with RGB.

Do not plug a 5v fan in a 12v header. You would damage your system or fan.
